The End of the World is Nigh

October 6th, 2011

That’s what my friend said when she saw I had finally joined facebook. I’ve been avoiding it for the longest time, out of principle really, feeling my blog was enough of my life to put out there on the internet for all the world to see. But a few things have happened over the last couple weeks and I had to join Facebook for a new job at Ethel (more on that next week along with a glove giveaway).

So, for all of you who have been asking for ages if I’m on there or not, I can finally say YES. You can friend me personally as Susy Morris if you’d like. I also created a Chiot’s Run facebook page, so make sure you head on over there and “like” it to get updates on blogs posts and other Chiot’s Run News. I’m also on Twitter under @ChiotsRun if you’d like to follow me there and Pinterest as well.

What’s your favorite social media outlet: twitter, facebook, pinterest, flickr, etc.?

According to the Mayan calender, time as we know it has changed and we’ve moved into the last phase.. I ran right to Facebook and friended & liked you. Im KimR there.
I signed up on Facebook long before it was what it is today because a nephew who was in college convinced me that I needed to go on there to communicate with him.. He isnt on there anymore that I can tell however, everyone I went to school with and family & friends are these days… so I enjoy it for staying in touch with so many people when I have time. I dont go on there every day or even for long.. but Im glad I joined.
Congrats in your new job! Enjoy it!!

It is a great spot to keep in touch with some people, I’ve talked to my brother more in the last week than I have in the last year simply from being on FB.

I enjoy facebook so I can see pictures of my niece’s and nephew who live far away and keep in touch with friends and family. It’s mine and my Mom’s account now though.

None of the above. I guess I’m where you were last year or whatever in my attitude towards those many, many time-sucking sites. I probably spend too much time online as it is–I don’t need more temptation to avoid my various chores.

I just joined Pinterest a couple days ago. I think I’m more interested in collecting ideas from other people’s pins that collecting my own though.

Susy, Hmmmm, facebook I know and Twitter I know but what’s a Pinterest. Another social network? Good grief. I have a facebook account but rarely go there. Blogs keep me busy enough. I would rather do a couple things well than get stretched too thin. I do understand that facebook has become a way of business communication especially for writers. It would be a great way to stay in touch with the readers. I guess I will just remain a blogger until I am forced into the social network world.

    Have a great writer day.

Pinterest is a visual pinboard to keep track of all the things you see on-line that you like. An organization tool, with a little social aspect thrown in. I use it to keep track of projects I find interesting, products I like, gardens that inspire me, etc.

I too am a recent Facebook member. I held off for a long time. I was also probably the last person to get a cell phone! I am underwhelmed. I have connected with a few old friends which is nice, but for the most part can’t quite figure out what all the fuss is about- but I’m hanging in there. I enjoy reading blogs much more.
I’m sending you a friend request now Susy.

I completely agree, not quite sure what all the fuss is about. I enjoy Flickr much more as a social outlet, and blogging reading blogs, hearing from all of you in the comments here, reading comments on other blogs, etc.

I don’t get/understand facebook. Sure. I have a thingy but seldom use it. I do not have the constant need to be connected and I hope my life remains that way. My husband and I do not own cell phones and rarely use the telephone.

Gads! I believe we are hermits. But content hermits.

I know I should be far more connected to social media… being a techie-person and all. But I simply don’t like being *THAT* connected. [I don’t even have a smart phone, yet…?]
As an artist, my most useful way to network with viewers and other artists is through an online art gallery, DeviantART and my sporatic use of Twitter [posts like “Hand hurts. Too much draw. UGH.”]
Other than that, I am pretty much off the grid, so to speak.
Maybe I’ll create a gardener persona and keep my art world separate…

I am now a total pinterest addict. Before I found them I dedicated a good chunk of my iphoto library to folders trying to track things I liked and inspirational sites. It worked, kinda… but it was difficult to keep a link back to the original source. Pinterest is the solution I was dreaming of and didn’t even know it.

Like you, I waited a very long time to join Facebook. Since joining, it has only been a positive experience–I’ve found support groups for Isaac’s health problems and it’s been a great way to keep up with and learn from mother’s across the world who are dealing with the same issues and concerns. So I guess I am officially a fan of Facebook!
