And They’re Off
Last week I talked about taking photos and setting up our Christmas card. I sent them in to the printer on Sunday night and the UPS man delivered them Friday evening, not bad turnaround time for custom printed Christmas cards. Saturday morning was spent addressing all the cards while Mr Chiots was out sitting in the woods waiting for a nice doe to walk by. I finished up most of them right before noon and ran them in to the post office so they’d be on their way for delivery later this week.
Some people forgo holiday cards for environmental reasons, others for time or cost issues. Personally, I enjoy sending them and receiving them. In a world dominated by quick virtual communication, I find it satisfying to address glossy cards with a pen in hand. I enjoy thinking about the people I’m sending them to and about the ways they each arrived on my Christmas list. The creativity involved in coming up with my Christmas card every year is also something I thoroughly enjoy, it’s a good challenge (and I LOVE a challenge). This year I sent out cards our personal cards and cards from Ethel, which I spent Sunday afternoon addressing and writing notes in. Some of the people overlap from my personal to my work life and they’ll be getting one of each.
Since you’ve been waiting to see what our final card looks like, this is it. It features the little camper we built this summer and took on our trek across the country.
Since I received the printing overages I have a good number of cards left. If you’d like to receive a Christmas card from Chiot’s Run use the “contact me” button to the right to send me your mailing address. I’ll gladly send one along as I’d rather seem them hanging in your home than in the recycling dumpster in town.
How do you display the cards you get from others?

I hang some cards across some twine in the hallway, then after that is full….cards get put on mantle tops, cupboard tops. If theres a space theres a card. :)

Susy those are GREAT! I too always set myself up for a challenge trying to create a nicer card every year. Where do you order yours from. I think next year I will go with the postcard theme — love it!

I don’t have a great display – I stick ’em in a basket. Starting in January, though, every time we have a family meal, we pick a card out of the basket, talk to the boys about the family/person that sent it, and include them especially in our prayer before the meal. We get to enjoy each card by itself and really focus on the family members or friends that sent it, just for a little bit, and after the craziness that is December.

CLASSIC. You could even send the front image out as an email Christmas card to people you dont have their regular addresses to.

I have some jute twine hanging across my Hoosier cabinet and I use clothes pins to hang the cards from. I like the “homey” feel.

I’ve been awaiting the final card design! This is splendid! It’s so colorful, but very creative!
And I am the same way – I like getting cards!
Shame that I’m a bit on the… oh, what do you call it, “lazy” side? haha. As an artist sometimes I feel obliged to do a hand-drawn card [even though it might be scanned and printed, for ease of my poor drawing arm] but I never get around to doing it. /sigh
Maybe I’ll be better next year.
And I would be delighted to get a card! ♥

We hung ours this year with ribbon and clothespins.

Those are awesome! :) And I too would love to have one…
I love Christmas cards.. mine are usually quite late and they generally say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas for a couple reasons..
1. They may not reach the recipient before Christmas and
2. I also send them to friends who dont celebrate Christmas (non-Christians) but whom I still want to wish a happy holiday season..
I’ve been trying to figure out another way to display mine but we wedge ours behind the wood framing that surrounds the open window area between the living-room & kitchen.
We generally get more cards than will fit there and last year I put ribbon bows up and pinned the cards to the ribbons.. It wasnt ideal really, but it was nice. Im still looking for another better way.

I’ve actually considered doing Happy New Year cards one year instead of Christmas cards.
Mine have said Happy Holidays before, but then I realized if my Jewish friend sent me a Happy Hanukkah card I’d be happy to receive their greetings and not offended since I don’t celebrate that holiday.

I love sending and receiving Christmas cards as well. They factor quite heavily in my Christmas decorating. I think it’s sad that so few people send them these days.

I used to put mine up around the door to the dining room. We moved last month, and I have gotten any cards yet. havent sent any either, so I can’t complain lol. I have some up at my station at work, though, around my window with my sticky snowflakes. :)
