Whew….

March 7th, 2012

We finally arrived back at Chiot’s Run at 2:30 am yesterday morning after a LONG drive down to the bottom of the US and back. Last Saturday it was 95 degrees when we were in Naples, FL and when we arrived home it was 17 with the ground covered in snow.

All sorts of wonderful experiences were had, from watching my friend run her first half marathon, visiting Ernest Hemingway’s house, taking my first sea plane ride, eating lots of seafood, meeting some great new folks, all while enjoying the warm sunny weather of Florida. We even had a few hours of relaxation in between our weekends of work and the long hours in the car.

Stay tuned for lots of great photos of lush tropical foliage and flowers. I soaked up a good dose of vitamin D, hopefully enough to keep me going through the busy seed starting season that is now upon us. Even though the warmth of the sun was nice, I’m certainly glad to be back in the chilly north – I’m a northerner through and through. Give me snow, cold weather and some warm woolens and I’m happy as a clam!

What climate do you find suites you best?

I definitely prefer the four distinct sesons that we have in the Northeast. There is nothing like a short little esacpe during the winter to warm up the bones though. Twice in my life, I took a little 4 day weekend to a warmer climate and it made the rest of the winter much easier to tolerate. This “winter” however has been a breeze. Am going down to Florida for a few days this month and can’t wait to see everything growing!

    Welcome Home!

I’m a native Californian, and often miss the mild temps of San Diego – but there’s nothing like an east coast autumn or spring. Humid sticky weather – I could do without – in the end this CA girl converted a long time ago!

Are you able to sleep in the Tiny Trailer? I looks too small for two people. Just wondering. Glad your trip was a safe one.

Yes, we sleep in there quite comfortably. It’s actually only a foot narrower than a queen sized bed. We find it quite cozy!

Very cool. It looks like you have a great time when you travel. I can see why! Thanks.

I love Florida! We went there twice during the winter and it was so nice. When I am there I never want to come back, I love the ocean and the tropical plants. I am not a very good northerner even though I was born in Ohio. Living in Texas and AZ ruined me, I don’t care about seasons, I like staying warm. :P

Aww, a Hemmingway cat! :) Despite how many times I went to Key West I never went by and saw one.

My favorite climate? From September until late April—Florida. While summers *can* be decent if I’m on the beach there, the rest of the summer is miserable, miserable, miserable. I did not like to garden, mow or do much outside in the summer when I was there. Not to mention the mass of mosquitoes in the wild places in summer. But, yeah, it is pretty much perfect for 3/4 of the year.

So glad you had wonderful weather while you were here. This winter has been glorious!
I’ve been in Florida over 40 years, so I know it will be a challenge to once again deal with colder winters. I’m ready for the change though. Looking forward to seeing the changes in spring and fall somewhere in the Carolinas
    next year.

I’m a Nor’easter through and through. I love the 4 seasons and the anticipation of what the next one brings. A little respite in the spring is nice. I spent a week of 80-90 degree dry sunny days in AZ last March but upon my return to Portland found the snowbanks and evergreens very comforting.

Yay! A Hemmingway kitty! I love those little polydactyl paws. They look like little kitty house slippers.

I like warm wearther. Not hot and not cold — warm.

I’m with you. Northerner through and through. Although I was born in Kentucky, and lived in Korea and Delaware… I like the northern climate much, much more.
I’ve been to Florida… no thanks! Too hot, too humid… Ultimately, Germany is where I would choose to plant my roots… but I’m quite happy in the Northeast. Or Colorado. Colorado was very very nice…

I grew up going to FL 2x a year visiting grandparents in Hollywood. There is just a “feeling” that I get when I go to FL. Now parents have place in Naples. I was there in April last year – too dang hot and humid for me when I was there. I like S. TX with a bit of a chill in winter (sometimes) but no snow. I like that we have 4 seasons (not like the MN I grew up in) but it is better than the desert in Palm Springs for me.

I am glad you enjoyed your first seaplane ride. I did my float plane rating down in FL. It was great fun. We always planned to get a set of floats for one of our planes when we lived in MN (w/all those lakes) but never got around to it.

I love the Midwest climate.. I love the summers here more than anything.. though I enjoy each of the seasons here in their own turn.

I had heat exhaustion several times (thats a hair off of a full blown heat stroke) so Im super sensitive to the heat.. It makes me sick as a dog so I like just skipping that. Unfortunately, my homeland makes me sick.
And in N Tex, the winter cold winds blow so hard, they just bite you all winter long. One thing I do like about the weather there is that the springs are glorious.. but they may only last a few weeks before the furnace is turned on.

I do enjoy the winters down in the Rio Grande Valley. Someday I hope to be a snowbird & spend my winters down there & summers up here in Ohio or some other northern state. ;)
