Hello Spring

March 20th, 2012

It’s officially spring! We’re certainly having the weather for it already; it’s been pretty warm for NE Ohio. The soil is still really soggy so I can’t work in the garden, at least not doing anything major. As a result I’ve been spending my days doing some spring cleaning outside: washing the windows, scrubbing the siding, painting the shutters, cleaning the deck, etc.

Dexter is enjoying the spring weather just as much as I have, though not by doing anything useful. He lays on the porch in the sun while I work away, occasionally coming over to rub on my legs to command some attention.

Hopefully you have a chance to get outside to enjoy spring today or soon!

Does it feel like spring in your garden yet?

My kitties were lounging in the sun like Dexter too.
My garden is more spring like but not there yet. I lifted the garlic mulch and there is still ice under it. I was hoping for green shoots. On the other hand, under my little hoop the kale is growing and the spinach is up.

Such cute photos! We have been having very warm days and nights. It’s so early for it, but we have been sleeping with the windows open and playing outside a lot. Now we’re getting torrential rain and storms so we’re inside packing.

Here in zone 5A (Northern Missouri) we are warming fast. The grass has greened and the fruit trees are blooming. I have the cool season crops planted such as potatoes, peas and onions. Cabbage and broccoli hardening off ready to go in the garden. So yes spring is here also.

…Yes, Spring is here! It has been “balmy” here in mid Missouri with temps in the mid 80’s but things are supposed to cool down I hear later this week. I know you can’t do anything about the weather but 85 in March, seriously? ;o)

…I love Dexter – such a handsome boy. That last photo is priceless! :o)

…I’ve been doing the same here. Cleaning both inside and out, including flower beds. The garden is nothing but a mucky, muddy mess and we’re supposed to get even more rain mid week. So any gardening is on hold.

    …Happy Spring! Enjoy your day!

    …Blessings :o)

Here in DC it has felt like spring since February. Today is feels like summer! Haven’t done much garden work yet, other than start seeds. I do have some chores to do this weekend. Love the photos of Dexter. He’s adorable!

What a happy guy! He is a particularly handsome rascal.

I’m in Atlanta and it’s already hot enough that the a/c is on and I’m grumpy. I do love this time of year here, though. The flowering trees and shrubs are working overtime to put on the display we wait all year for. The pears have faded but the dogwoods are in full bloom. I have one in my yard that I’ve grown from the tiniest twig. It is about 8 feet tall now and has tons of blooms for the first time. It’s amazing how a little thing like that can lift your spirits.

It has been near 90 degrees here in Georgia this week. Our cats are being just as helpful as Dexter. Meanwhile, we have been doing lots of planting. Potatoes, onions, and corn have been planted.

By th way, thank you for getting me interested in making sauerkraut. We had some tonight and it was wonderful! I well never “buy” it again.

Dexter with his paw over his eyes – so cute. I always get a kick out that when my cats do it. Kind of like “oh, it’s too bright” sort of thing. I am spending tons of time outside working. We had a huge thunderstorm dump 2″+ on us the night before last. I need the to set the garden beds dry out a bit and then I need to get seed in the ground. Hoping I don’t regret doing it a bit early…..

How adorable is Dexter? Our cat Beckett has been having a ball in the yard for a few weeks as it has been warm here and we had such a mild winter. Someday I am going to become better at taking photographs just so I can capture things like this, a joyfully wallowing cat.
