Resting
As I’m sure the case is with all of you, it’s been a bit crazy around here. We’re in our busy season for our business so we’re out working every weekend. Add to that getting the house ready for the market, planting all the summer garden crops, working the other few jobs I have and I’ve been going non-stop. After realizing last night at 10:30 that I hand’t written my blog post yet I realized it was the perfect opportunity to share this photo that I took yesterday afternoon.
Those cats sure know how to make sure they rest up, something I need to do every now and then! Make sure you take some time this week to rest and relax a bit.
When is your busiest time of the year?

Probably my busiest time of year is from July 4-Labor Day because my business attracts lots of vacationers and summer people. Did I miss something? You are getting your house ready for the market? Where are you going?

We’re planning on moving to Maine, nothing “official” yet but we’re getting ready to move and waiting on paperwork.

I thought that might be the case. Can you reveal or hint at where in Maine? A number of your followers, me included, live in Maine.

Those cats are a great reminder for us to take time for ourselves.
Is there any time of year I’m not busy? Not really. I am a goal-oriented person, so I always have some project or another going on. Summers are less busy with work though, as some of my students take the summer off.
Hope you have some time to relax, Susy.

I’m jealous of the way cats can sleep at any time and in any place/position. How is she balancing on the arm of that chair in any kind of comfortable way?! Too funny.

Our busiest time used to be kidding season (goats having their kids-baby goats) but this summer has been crazy though!

I really don’t notice one time of year different than any others; but I do believe I would like to come back as a cat.

My busiest time of year is definitely from the middle of February to the middle of March, because I work for our state’s legislature, and that is when the session is nearing its end. I put in 12-14 hour days and sometimes I am so busy that I don’t even have time to take a lunch. Every year, I marvel that I even survived it. The Hubs and I usually try to take a few days and take a road trip after the dust settles, which is a nice little reward for all that work!
Love the cat pics!

Susy, do you put frontline or anything on your cats? We’ve become cat owners (about 2 months ago) but I’ve kept them inside because I’m afraid of them catching fleas and ticks and a little afraid of them being attacked by a larger animal. We’re in NH though, so maybe we have more of a problem with those than you do. BTW, I love your blog – it resonates with me on so many levels – and was so excited when I saw you post something about Maine. We’ve been in New Hampshire for about 9 months and I absolutely love it.

Nope we don’t put anything in our pets. I find an occasional tick (have found 3 in the 10 years we’ve lived here) and I’ve seen a flea here an there. I’m more concerned about the pesticides in the flea/tick treatments than I am about any problems from fleas/ticks. That being said, our pets eat a raw meat diet and I occasionally rub some essential oils on them that are good for pest control. Our dog sleeps in a cedar bed and has never had fleas or ticks.
As for wild animals, our outdoor cats sometimes get into fights with feral cats that pop up in the garden. We also have great horned owls that hang out around here, along with foxes, coyotes, hawks and eagles as well – all of which would love a cat for a meal. I’ve made my peace with the risk of something happening to one of our cats, it’s the circle of life. Two of our cats are exclusively indoor cats and have always been so, they don’t mind being inside all the time. One cat is feral so there’s no way she’s going to be happy inside. We tried to keep Dexter inside but he was not happy at all and started having anxiety issues until we let him outside. Some cats are just healthier & happier being outside. I don’t worry too much, I’d rather them live a happy short life outside than a long miserable safe indoor life.
My mom likes using Sentry Natural Defense Natural Flea and Tick Squeeze-On for Dogs and Puppies 40-Pound and Over on her dogs for fleas & ticks, which is an option if you just can’t do the no treatment thing. But the cat version gets mixed reviews.

Summer is definitly is my busiest time. With school being out and entertaining my son. Gardening, farmers market and canning keep my schedule fuller as well. But, that’s ok. I have plenty of free time in the fall and winter.

My busiest time is end of summer. We start really getting ready for holiday (I work in buying, retail) just about the time the garden needs constant picking & tending. Always coincides with the time of year I’d most likely to be lazy– of course. Hope you find some time to relax!

I have two cats, a black short-haired indoor/outdoor cat, that never has had a flee on him. and a long haired white cat that never ventures past the porch. SHE gets fleas. Go figure. I try to put frontline drops on the black cat and come away bleeding.
