Friday Favorite: Seafood
I love seafood and fish, really any kind of thing that lives in water. If I have the choice, I’ll always choose fresh seafood over any other kind of protein. Here in our small town it’s tough to come by good seafood. I would drive to Cleveland on the days it’s delivered at West Side Market, but it’s still not quite as good as it is closer to the ocean and it would be 3 hours of driving.
I grew up eating really fresh fish. My grandpa had a boat and we’d go fishing on Lake Erie often, we enjoyed lots of walleye and perch when it went well. When we lived in Colombia we ate all kinds of different fish and seafood, huge river fish and seafood when we were up on the coast.
One of the things I’m super excited about when we move to Maine is the fresh seafood. I was talking to the people we bought the property from and they said there’s a seafood CSA close, which I’ll be joining as soon as possible!
While in Maine we stayed at the house with the couple we purchased it from and they fed us all kinds of great fresh seafood. After signing the closing papers we went down to Youngs Lobster Pound to get lobster & steamers for dinner that evening.
Wednesday for lunch we had leftover lobster on a salad. That night for dinner we enjoyed Maine shrimp in a stir fry of local vegetables. We only ate 6 meals in Maine and 3 of them contained something from the sea – sounds like the perfect ratio to me.
The chickens seem to enjoy seafood just as much as I do.
Are you a fish/seafood lover or do you prefer something else (or are you vegetarian)?

Eh. I eat the fish my husband catches in our lake without any trouble though also not with any great enjoyment, but anything with a definite fish flavor (even something like salmon) is a no-go for me.

This whole house-buying experience seems dream-like to me! I’ve never heard of the sellers hosting the buyers before unless they were already friends! It’s amazing!
You will so enjoy the fresh fish. And there is already an established CSA. Wow! You hit the jackpot!
We eat fish about once a week. Love catfish, salmon and tilapia.
Enjoy your weekend!

Since you obviously enjoy seafood, you have so much to look forward to. Once Shrimp and Scallop seasons begin you will be able to purchase them from roadside vendors. A bright spot in a rather dark time of the year.

Susy, some times is sad to leave behind the memories in a move but it looks like you have definite memories to be made in your new place. I eat any kind of fish. I’ve even been known to eat carp. My favorite kinds of fish would be Walleye and Perch. Hey, I’ll even eat Long John Silver if I have too. When growing up our family would take trips to Minnesota and catch mostly Bullheads or Channel Cat. So for me it doesn’t really have to come from the sea. It’s all good …. or it was at one time. The run off from farm ground has changed the farm ponds and rivers to nitrate ponds and rivers. It’s starting to get difficult to find good to eat fresh caught fish.
We were always taught as kids that fish was brain food. No wonder you are such a smart person. :0)
Have a great moving/seafood day.

A seafood CSA?? Do you have a spare room I can live in?? ;)
I love seafood, but I don’t eat it that often: price, quality and sustainability are the main reasons. But I did recently have local Lake Erie perch, since I finally found a local fish monger. I can’t wait to go back (it’s about a 45 minute round trip, so I’ll wait to combine it with another trip) to buy fresh fish from them and cook it myself.
Mmmm… now I’m craving fish…..

I adore fish as well and eat it often. Living in Colorado, fresh fish is not easy to come by and it’s expensive! I love it though, so it’s worth it to me to seek it out. I always say that I could be completely content as a vegetarian, but giving up seafood is a deal breaker for me!

That’s beautiful that you already have a relationship with the sellers. It really is.
And yes! Welcome to the East Coast! We have a grand amount of seafood… I’m happy for that, since I LOOOOOVE seafood!
Sadly I wouldn’t eat whatever I caught in NJ… but when I lived in Kentucky I remember going crabdaddy hunting and catching catfish in rivers with my dad! Loved those days. I want to drag my boyfriend fishing one of these days… but only as a hobby.

My husband is a complete vegetarian, but I haven’t given up seafood. I love haddock, cod, sole, any of the flaky white fish… And scallops are so good! I love salmon too, but I’ve given that up since wild Atlantic salmon is endangered, and the farmed stuff is terrible for us and for the environment. Since I try to eat local, Pacific salmon is out. But lucky for me there is no shortage of nice seafood here in Maine.

Im a total seafood fan. I grew up near the Gulf of Mexico & we made bi-weekly trips to the beach to pick up fresh catch off my dads friends shrimp boat.
Fish was also plentiful and a large part of our diet, both freshwater & salt water.
I sure miss those days though we do have a decent source for good mussels & other seafood at Euclid Fish in Mentor.
Our next door neighbor & good friend owns 4 or 5 boats & he fishes quite a bit & shares much of his catch. We usually have a big neighborhood fish fry once at year & have a few small get-togethers and have grilled walleye tacos on our deck. Yum!!

Did you try Chase’s daily???

Yep, right down the road in Liberty. We haven’t tried that restaurant, I’ll add it to the list. Feel free to swing by next time you’re up, as long as it’s after Sept 19th.
