Crossing the Finish Line
Late last night, Mr Chiots and I finally crossed the finish line on the upstairs project. We now have two extra bedrooms, a bathroom and a nice sitting area. Working around the clock is almost an understatement when it came to this project. I snapped a few quick photos and then we fell into bed.
We still need to have the tub installed, we’re going to have a plumber to that. We’re still waiting on a few parts to arrive for that. I can’t wait to see how it looks in the bathroom with the show attachment!
We crossed the finish line just in time because we have two showings today. One this morning and one later this evening.
What was the last home improvement project you completed?

Looks amazing, Susy. You and Brian… you’re nuts. Lovable, very talented, incredibly hard-working nuts… but still nuts. :)

I’ve done work like this before on a place I was selling. It always looks so nice when I’m done that I kind of wish I still was going to live there.
Beautiful work! I’m sure it will improve the value and sell-ability of your home dramatically.

It looks all ready for the showing. Congratulations! All that hard work but you don’t get to use it. Yes, my last home improvement project was a new kitchen and new bathrooms for the house we sold right before our moved out. We never had a chance to use it. My wife still hate me for that.

I never see the point in remodeling just to sell your home. if I’m going to remodel I sure the heck want to enjoy it. We have sold many homes and never remodeled just to sell it. They take it like it is and fix it to suit themselves. I feel it’s such a waste.

I do when you can ask a whole lot more for it. The increase in our list price with the updates was four times higher than it cost for the updates – well worth it for us. Plus our market is much larger with four bedrooms. We discussed the changes with our real estate agent and she thought it was a much better way to sell the house.

Deb,
I think it all depends on market. When we are trying to sell our house, our neighbor whose house was almost identical to ours but with more recent improvements put their house on the market month earlier than ours. In our case, we needed to sell ours quickly at the time of real-estate boom right before the crush. No, I did not know then, that real-estate market was just about to crush. But, in retrospect, that $10K spent on updating our kitchen and bathrooms were the best investment we ever spent. Our house was on the market only for a week before sold at the asking price which was bit lower than our neighbors house. In contrast, our neighbors house sat on market over a year, and when it was finally sold, the market has crushed and the house was sold much, much lower than original asking price, almost 2/3 of our sales price.

Wishing you luck with your showings!
I look forward to seeing the pictures and reading the descriptions of all the wonderful projects you’ll tackle in your NEW house. :)

Everything looks beautiful! Good luck with the showings. I repainted one of the bathrooms yesterday and today, started painting a bedroom, ready to sand the new wood planking in the vestibule then paint, and oh yeah all the other things that need to be done to list our house. So eager to get to work on the new place, but must get the old one ready to sell.

My husband just finished roofing a section of our house. Unfortunately, our house is so big, he has to do the roofing in stages, one section per summer. He should be done in a couple of years. And then we can start the painting. Ugh.
I dream of living in a tiny, two bedroom house. Big old houses are very cool, but the maintenance is killer. Especially if you do it all yourself.
I would love to live in your new upstairs. Beautiful.

…Gosh you two, that looks fantastic! Great job! Now you know you two deserve a break, right? Please take one, ‘kay? Promise? :o)
…Yeah, I believe in doing upgrades even if you’re selling. You never know what the future is gonna bring so why not upgrade if you can and enjoy it while you’re there. That’s my theory and I’m stickin’ to it… ;o)
…Enjoy that nap! Seriously now.
…Blessings :o)

Completed? Hmnn.. its been a while. :D A friend of ours put down ceramic tile in our kitchen.. thats the last one that was finished.
I on the other hand had one of the upstairs rooms (that looks very much like your upstairs) painted and was going to move all my crafting stuff from an alcove to that room so I could paint it to match and my daughter called asking if she could move back home.. sigh. Project got put on hold & never got finished.
Hopefully I’ll get back up there & get it done either late this fall or when Im off on 2 weeks vacation over the holiday season. Im ready for it to be done but dont have the time or energy at the moment. Too many frying pans in the fire.

it is beautiful, so many long hours for you. Here’s to some successful showings! We are almost done remodeling our kitchen, the flooring should be complete this weekend.

Oh my! It’s soooo nice, well done you two. Our last remodel was the resurrection of an old mobile home that morphed into a glorious quilting studio. We took it right down to studs and sub-floor and created a bright, sunny creative space with lots of windows and a redwood deck perfect for sitting outside with a cup of coffee while the creative juices stir.
