Making a Statement
Yesterday, at noon, I found myself standing on the corner of a major intersection in our area with a sign:
I’m not much of one to do these kinds of things, but one of my good friend is very involved in the fight against fracking and wastewater disposal here in our community. She helped coordinate a state wide rally that took place in communities all around the state yesterday.
The hope was to raise awareness of the fact that Ohio is a dumping ground for many other state’s fracking water and the dangers that come along with this.
Since she’s a good friend of mine, I went to support her and to take some photos to publicize the rally. We stood on a main intersection in town around lunch time waving our signs. Thankfully, we got a lot of people honking and giving us the thumbs up (a few other fingers too, but we won’t go there). Some folks that actually stopped to chat, thank us in person and to get some information to pass along.
This kind of involvement is really not my thing. I much prefer to work in the background. I’ll cook, support, make signs and just about anything but be out in the middle of things. Standing on the corner holding a sign is WAY out of my comfort zone. Sometimes, it’s all about supporting those you love and a cause you believe in above staying in your comfort zone. I’m thankful for those that are fighting to keep our water and air clean for future generations!
Have you ever taken part in an environmental/political rally?

Your a good friend! It would not be my thing, either. But, sometimes we do things that surprise ourselves or take us out of our comfort zones for a good cause or something we really believe in and I know how passionate your beliefs are on this matter!
I’m glad it’s not a “Will Work for Local Food” sign :)

Keep up the good fight! It boggles my mind that people are willing to sacrifice land, water & air for personal wealth.

Glad you stepped out of your comfort zone for a good cause. I’ll bet your friend really appreciated it. Good on ya!

This is so awesome. Good on your for helping to spread the word! I too live in Northeast Ohio. Do you remember all those earthquakes we had late last year? Earthquakes in Ohio is almost completely unheard of. Eleven within a few months time is totally insane and should have been a wake-up call. The biggest one for us was Jan 1st this year. That one shook our house so terribly, and my children were terrified. I cannot fathom how anyone in goodwill could condone this type of practice.
All bow down to the mighty dollar!

Yeah for you! I have not protested in an environmental rally but I have def participated in a political rally and it was sort of cool…for lots of reasons but I think most of all that we are allowed and even somewhat encouraged to make our voices heard as Americans.

…You’re such a good friend, she’s blessed to have you. :o)
…No, I’ve never done anything like that. Like you, I’d rather work in the background but I would step out of my comfort zone and do it for a friend. And what a good cause to stand up for too. I often wonder just how much more Mother Earth is gonna take before she says, “enough”.
…Blessings :o)

I’m not one to be in the middle of stuff like that either, but I think it’s great that you supported your friend and were able to share some information with people.
