Some Days…
Some days….
you wake up with a headache and overcook the eggs
and the dog is sick from eating chicken food
it’s a rainy dreary day so you can’t get outside
then you remember there’s laundry on the line
Some days we simply focus on the wrong things.
Because on those same days…
you have a warm and toasty house
with warm wooly socks to wear and fluffy cats to pet
and a honey that brings you ginger tea
delicious locally made sausage and braised cabbage for dinner
along with a few new books on the coffee table to read after it gets dark
Some days it’s not about what happens, but about what you see.
What wonderfully simple things are overshadowing your hardships this week?

I just received a shipment of my chicory coffee, after being without it for about a week. It’s a little thing, theoretically, but it somehow makes my life worth living again.

I can completely understand that. A good cup of coffee in the morning can really change your mindset!

Yesterday I was outside reading and just stopped to notice how absolutely perfect the sky looked with its white, fluffy clouds and deep blue vastness. There is a bird taking up residence in one of our hollies, so it was singing and a cool breeze was blowing, signaling relief from the summer heat at last. It was a snapshot of nirvana. How grateful it made me feel.

Usually my Wednesdays are difficult day with all the kids activities and my work. But something special happened yesterday – the day went smoothly and I was still able to catch my breath and enjoy the day. Makes getting up today easier.

I have lettuce, mustard greens, spinach and onions planted and am worried about it being ready for my market in November.
Yesterday I let my mind worry about that instead of fact that I’m getting to enjoy my days helping out at a local farm doing school tours and watching kids get excited about what they are experiencing.
Here’s to hoping my lettuce keeps growing!!

The sunrise this morning was just lovely, with enough clouds to turn pink and surprise my little ones while they waited at the bus stop. It’s the first clear day in weeks and cold-loss or not all the window shades are up and I feel indulgently bathed in sunshine.

My 20 month old opened up the window in the middle of the car wash yesterday….water went everywhere and he was covered…all I could do was laugh and celebrate his curiosity :)

I’ve been in such a nasty mood yesterday and today–and your question made me pause and remember the gorgeous drawing of a flower my 7-year-old made for me. “It’s from your garden,” he said. It absolutely brightened my day. And today, when I met him for lunch at school, his substitute teacher came over to the special “parent” table to tell me how sweet and well mannered he is. I was very proud.
Thanks for helping me focus on the simple, precious moments of happiness.

The joyous and musical chattering of 350-some kids playing in the first snow in the schoolyard. Just close your eyes, breathe deeply and enjoy.

I love those cold, rainy, broody days… Some of my friends call them Kimmie Weather.. which is really funny cuz Im known for my sunny disposition.. I just always try to appreciate the best of every moment I can.. The changes in the weather are a blessing and I love them all for different reasons, even storms, tornado’s and hurricanes.
m trying to think of what my hardships were/are this week… Im sure I have had some…
The only real hardship I can think of is that I’ve stayed up way too late the last two nights… I woke up ok both mornings, but when I got to work this morning, I realized I was feeling pretty grouchy.. I shared my grouchy feelings with a coworker &, he had to needle me to death so that I had to laugh, roll my eyes, and change my mood… It worked. It usually does. I have the best coworkers!
There are many blessings in my life & its rare that I let much of anything get me down. The only other pesky thing I can think of is sometimes I get behind slow people on the way to or from work.. and I really dont like that.. It reminds me though, that I need to slow down, & work on patience.. Oh boy. ;)

and Some Days your neighbor mows your yard for you! (true story)

Nice, in Ohio our neighbor always mowed our front ditch.

My Cat. My cat snorting while she dreams. Also the smell of fresh laundry. One more day of warm weather (and I’ll get home early), but then some rain (I can’t wait!). I might leave the laundry out in the rain because then it even smells better! I don’t understand why more people don’t leave their laundry out in the rain on purpose. Do you have acid rain? Work’s going well. Really great caramels with cashews sold at the local farmer’s market.
All the above overshadows my noisy neighbors and their dogs that crawl through my fence and knock over my plants. May it rain on their parade. . .

Oh, and they smoke like chimneys as well. The rain might take care of that. But I guess that mountains overshadow that hardship. In fact, living in Montana with mountains overshadows pretty much any hardship.

My mom flew out to visit me and see my new house. I’m in the middle of painting my new house and trying to rent out my old place. I’m taking a night class and have tons of deadlines at work. Yet, we spent the afternoon outside enjoying one of the last sunny days in the Pacific northwest, painting trim and talking.

where do you get your socks ? :) :) :) really nice

Most of them I’ve gotten as gifts, they’re all Knee High Smartwool Socks. I really like them and wear them all winter long.

I’ve been so frustrated with my unfinished complete-kitchen/living room/dining rm/laundry rm reno! We started in March with the demo and should absolutely be finished now, but sadly we are still waiting on cabinets pcs that were wrong and we have 1/2 the stairs finished . . . Just wishing for some semblance of order and WHAM! On a rainy dreary day, we get the best news ever. My mom is now cancer free!!! Clean PET scan! Cabinets, schmabinets, who cares! They’ll get finished someday-life is short we should laugh and love more and fret less over the small stuff, even when the small stuff seems big!
