There and Back Again

October 27th, 2012

And so it begins, the long journeys to Ohio and back for family functions and a few work projects. Mr Chiots and I don’t really mind though, long drives are something we got used to in college. The drive ends up being between 12-14 hours each way, depending on traffic and how often we stop.

We spend our time planning for the future, dreaming big dreams, discussing what we hope to accomplish this winter, and so many other things. Riding in the car gives us valuable dedicated time to talk without other distractions.

Another great thing is that there are so many wonderful things halfway. Every now and then we’ll break up our trips with stops in the Catskills, Winterthur, Longwood Gardens, at friends’ homes, and other wonderful places we discover.

After being away from Maine for a week, it’s good to finally be HOME! Yep this is home.

What’s your favorite mode of travel?

Glad you made it back home safe-n-sound.

I love road trips! It’s so much better to spend time as a family in a car for a few hours than dealing with the airport security and hustling about to make a flight.
We’ve never traveled by train, but it is on our family agenda. What a blessing to be able to travel at will. We appreciate our freedom.

It really depends.. I enjoy road trips and always have, but if I want to go visit family, they’re 1200-1800 miles away. Most of the time, I dont have time to drive it.. so I prefer to fly. If a place is within 600 miles, I’d rather drive.

Time machine. Wouldn’t it be great to travel where no roads are needed?

Gad you feel at home in Maine already! It’s sounds like a wonderful place to be. I just love traveling seeing new places, visiting old ones – One of my favorite ways to travel, though not for some time is by train. You can move about freely, see sights that cannot be seen from a car, and visit with people you have never met before. For someone my age (ahem), it’s a whole lot easier on the legs and back. With a car, though, you can stop whenever or wherever you like.

This is a daily journal of my efforts to cultivate a more simple life, through local eating, gardening and so many other things. We used to live in a small suburban neighborhood Ohio but moved to 153 acres in Liberty, Maine in 2012.
