Traveling Fools
Mr Chiots and I are travelers, we’ve spent many hours driving across the country and have visited many states. Driving is our preferred method of travel because there are so many interesting things to see. There are so many interesting things to see while you’re on the road, gardens, houses, businesses, cars and people.
Yesterday, we traveled in a big truck and got to see a whole different view. The world looks completely different when you’re up that high. I saw things on our trip to Maine that I’ve never seen before because they’re behind embankments and trees.
Of particular interest to me while traveling, is the beauty of the natural landscape. Nature really does do it best, it’s amazing that we spend hours planning, planting and tending our gardens and they pale in comparison to the beauty of a wild garden. We can learn a lot about gardening by taking note of wild areas.
What do you notice most while traveling?

We are geocachers (www.geocaching.com) and we always plan our trips around a route with interesting caches on it. You never know what you’re going to find or discover!

Whenever I’m driving along country roads, I enjoy looking at people’s gardens. I like to take a peak at what they are growing, how their beans and tomatoes are staked and how big their garden is. During the summer, I could go for a drive just to see gardens.

One of our most memorable trips was, like yours, driving a big truck – a UHaul on our move to Colorado 20 years ago. Iowa and Nebraska are two of the most amazing places I’ve seen. I’d dreaded the ride through there after hearing others say how flat and boring that part of the country was, but it was beautiful when seen from up high – gentle rolling hills and fields stretching forever. Endless sky. Storms you could see coming hundreds of miles away, lightning flashing… I really enjoyed it.
And like you, what I notice when traveling is the natural world.

Birds, traveling through Idaho recently I saw a huge bald eagle sitting in a pole, enjoying the day it seemed, also saw a number if hawks, a few ravens, crows, ducks, geese and probably some others too. I was amazed at the quantity of birds on this one particular stretch of open farmland and mountains/water by the freeway. I love watching birds and often have my head pointing towards the sky searching for birds while traveling.

I love, love love love love love looking around and soaking in the outdoors – especially when on road trips. [even though I get car sick easily… hurk!]
Most of the time, even in short car rides like to the grocery store, I tend to stare listlessly out the window. I like noticing the little things in the woods – fallen tree’s, colors on the floor, maybe even wildlife if I’m lucky!
I even got the idea for one of my [many] comic projects just from a car trip down to Florida. Kudzu. I never realized how bad it is down there… it’s like the northern version of Bittersweet! But yeah, just from being devastated by the amount of areas that are affected by Kudzu I got the idea of a story about plants fighting back to restore balance in a dying world. Deep, I know. ( ^w^ )

I look at it all, but I tend to really focus on the landscapes.. the trees, pastures, woods, hills, flat lands, ponds, creeks & rivers.. etc etc..
I enjoy looking at houses but I tend to look at them more when Im on a motorcycle ride, I love looking at gardens too..
My maternal grandfather was a farmer/rancher & we used to always go for Sunday drives looking at land, presumably that he could put more cattle on.. I think thats probably why I focus the most on the land itself. :)

I think our Heavenly Father gets great joy from us when we admire his amazing handy work! I love going to the mountains and the ocean..and everything in between!

I like looking at anything that catches my attention. I mostly drive to places given a choice. Living out west there is always something to look at (although one has to be careful to stop if one gets really involved). I do stop a lot and photograph or just smell things. I think that I like deserts and interesting rock formations, mountains and light and. . .
One thing I found interesting about this particular blog is that you talk a lot about seeing so much more off the road from the truck, but you posted pictures of the truck mirrors and a large truck passing you? Only one picture of what was off the road. Poop!!!! I was disappointed!

I took a few photos at the beginning of the trip and a few after it got dark, the rest of the time was spent looking out the windows. Since it was already going to be a 16 hours trip, stopping to photograph interesting things was out of the question.
