Unopened Gifts

December 27th, 2012

Under our Christmas tree there are still many unopened gifts, in fact most of our gifts to each other are still there. We were planning on opening them up on Sunday evening, but then my parents drove straight through and arrived right as we finished recording Cultivate Simple.
Christmas Tree 2013 1
So we decided to wait until this Friday or Saturday. We’ll make some eggnog, put on Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas and sit down to open them up. I can’t wait for Mr Chiots to open the gifts I got for him.

Have you already opened all your Christmas gifts or are there still a few left?

Susy, ah, well, I still have some to buy. My grandson went to see his Dad over Christmas vacation and his Mom and I decided our Christmas would be after he returned which will even be later than your Sunday. It won’t even be in this year. It will be sometime after January 2nd. So Christmas just keeps on being enjoyed this year.

Have a great time opening those special presents.

Yes, we did, and that means we all have new books to read!
Our last gift is the beautiful snow storm we are having right now, and the garden will finally have its insulating blanket. In the spring, the grass greens up under the snow, and there is a magical time when the snow melts away.
Are you getting the snow in Maine yet?

Our gifts have been unwrapped, used or waiting to be used (tenting during a nor’easter is not advisable). The tree is dry and needs to be taken out of the house, but I’m going to miss it. I’ll gather balsam and pine to use as decorations after the storm passes.

You have great restraint! My kids would have stared at unopened gifts like a hungry puppy stares at its kibble.

All unwrapped. I still need to start using my new gift – a fermentation crock. So exciting…..

Everything is open and all our Christmas stuff is put away. I always think I’ll keep it around for a few days, but as soon as I’m up and Christmas is over, the house gets overhauled. I guess I’m just eager to get the house back in it’s normal condition. We had a lovely Christmas, though. :)

That’s funny, I like to leave mine up as I feel it brightens the dark days. But then it’s only a small tree with white lights and a few glass balls.

We have a few to be opened yet. One daughter won’t be coming in til mid-January. We will be able to enjoy our lowly Christmas tree for another 2 weeks.

Love to all – enjoy your Christmas celebration and presents!

I always liked the idea of Christmas stretching out to Twelfth Night. But then I’d also like the music, lights, and decor to hold off until about 10 days before Christmas. Family parties have always been the big events, and they’ve always come after Christmas Day. As a kid the 25th was always the most exciting, and also a day for everyone to stay home, but there was plenty more to come, things to look forward to, reasons to leave up the decorations an plug in the lights. Best of all it carries you through the lingering dark and deepening cold until you find yourself in a fresh new year and the days are growing noticeably longer.
