A Dream Come True

January 8th, 2013

On Sunday afternoon, Mr Chiots had a dream come true. Many years ago, Mr Chiots discovered the sport of curling and fell in love. Ever since then, he’s been watching it on the internet, during the Olympics and talking about playing some day. Back in Ohio, the closest curling club was pretty far away. While we were researching our move to Maine he discovered the Belfast Curling Club (the only curling club in Maine).

Lucky for us, it’s only about 25 minutes away. We’ve been driving by it every week when we head in to town and kept saying that we need to check out their schedule so we can go watch. Mr Chiots checked their website last week and they were having “Learn to Curl” classes on Sunday. We called to sign up and grew ever more excited about the possibility.

It just so happened that there were two classes scheduled for Sunday. The first was one full, but they told us they might be able to squeeze us in. If not, they told us we’d be in the second class. Since we were recording our podcast, we ended up heading down just for the second class. It just so happened that no one else came to that class so it was just us. We got a private curling lesson then we were throw into a game with a few members. All-in-all, we curled for three hours on Sunday.

Mr Chiots is a natural at the sport. If we weren’t heading out of the country for a few weeks this spring, he’d be playing on a team this season. He is excited about the fall and will certainly be on a team! I’m not sure if I’ll be on a team quite yet, I need some time to think about it and hone my skills before jumping in that quickly. I’m quite happy that Mr Chiots fulfilled a dream this week!

Have you been able to fulfill any dreams recently?

Don’t tell my husband about this! He loves curling, and I think there’s a league on the cape! Actually, I think it would be great fun.

I am so glad to have found you via Pinterest on the carrot post. We are avid raised bed gardeners. I look forward to peeking at your other posts!

    How wonderful!
Maine is just the right place for you for sure!
I wonder where your curling stones came from…
Joe and I were in Scotland a few years ago, and stayed off the Southern West coast near Turnberry.
There is an small island out there in the sea, not more than a huge rocky hill, called Ailsa Craig. We were told most of the curling stones come from this island.
Have you been to Scotland? I think of you as honorary Scots… Similar values, and wisdom, and joy for life.

My husband did: He built a system that can theoretically provide us with unlimited hot water. And he bought a Roadmaster station wagon. My son did: He got to have a winter outdoor picnic and eat a squirrel he saw Daddy shoot.

What a bunch of woodchucks, no?

My dream at the moment is to sleep through the night again. Still waiting on that one.

Looks like fun, but I have no clue what curling is.. Enjoy!!

No major dreams coming true for me unless you want to count getting laid off from my job so that I can get loads of sleep & get myself into balance again.. actually, that is sort of a dream come true. ;)

What is it? I’ve never heard of it. Too old for that stuff. As for dreams coming true, they never will so it’s better to not have them. Glad you found a place to do this. Thanks for the post.

Glad you were so welcomed at the Belfast Curling Club. They were featured on the news because of participation in some international event a few years ago but I can’t remember what it was.
My dream of having goats was fulfilled at Christmas. Now on to fulfilling my dream of a barn.

Susy, Every day is a dream come true. I happen to get a career job that was just the one I dreamed about. For 41 years, I couldn’t wait to get to work. Every day was just the right mix of challenges and never the same. In retirement now I have been able to spend time gardening which never was possible during the career years.

Have a great dream filled day.

Oh, curling is fun! And it’s harder than it looks, especially the strategy!

The only trophy I’ve ever won is from curling, even though it was only the second time I had ever played. Long story :)

I would say a dream of mine is on it’s way to coming true. My pottery business has really picked up this past year and this makes the reality of me being able to work at home doing something I love a real possibility. AND, I did find and marry the sweetest man on earth a few months ago! lol! Well, I found him a couple of years ago…but you know what I mean. haha!
Congratulations on finding the curling league!

Hurry! Hurry hard! One of my favourite winter sports, mainly it involves yelling and beer lol

Yes, I’ve seen Curling being played on TV.
As for dreams, I’m with Nebraska Dave….every day is a dream come true…with things to be grateful for. But a big spoil for me at the end of last year was a trip on the ‘Indian Pacific’. That’s a train that travels the width of Australia. Have always dreamed of doing that. A huge country, over a day of travelling through a desert…incredible.
But, small dreams are every bit if not more important than huge long term dreams. Good on Mr Chiots!
