Friday Favorite: Home

February 22nd, 2013

Mr Chiots and I have been away from home for the past couple weeks. We spent a few days in Ohio visiting family & friends and getting our taxes buttoned up. Then we boarded a plane to South America, where we spent 10 days filming, editing, photographing, and writing. After coming back to Ohio, we spent a day resting, then we were on the road again, but not on our way home. We spent a few days driving to Kentucky and Cincinnati, visiting and meeting with clients about future projects.

Now, we’re on our way HOME, back to Maine. While we don’t mind traveling, it’s always a wonderful feeling to be home once again. It will be nice to enjoy coffee from our machine, cook breakfast on our stove, and sit in our favorite chairs to read.

Do you have any trips planned this coming year?

I just returned from a quick tropical getaway in Puerto Rico to warm up my bones. Although it was lovely,I always cannot wait to come home. We are planning a longer trip out west this summer to Jackson Hole. Summer is definitely the hardest time to be away from my house and gardens. Where I live in New England in the summer, I already feel like I am on vacation. Enjoy your return home. You must miss your animals too!

Mr. DebbieB and I always take a trip for our anniversary in the summer to one of the western National Parks, usually Yellowstone, but sometimes Glacier or Grand Canyon. We live in a suburb with no visible horizon, just trees and houses, so we love getting away to the mountains and canyons and waterfalls.

Im heading to North Texas the second of April. My oldest daughter is having her second baby around that time. I’ll be there for 2 weeks. While Im there, Im planning a quick 2 day trip down to the Hill Country or out to East Texas to take in lots of wildflowers.. My soul misses them here in Ohio..
Im also tentatively planning on going to the Heritage Harvest at Montecello http://heritageharvestfestival.com/. If Im not working, then I’ll most likely go, but if I have a new job, Im just going to have to wait & see what happens.

Susy, I am guessing that you beat the snow home. We got about 12 inches here in Nebraska where I live. The state received more out in the western part of the state. I don’t mind the snow but then again I don’t have chores to do or even work to get to. I can go out and play in the snow if I want or not. I expect that either today or tomorrow my grandson will want to go tobogganing. It’s all fun in the sun. Some days are just a little warmer in the sun than others. :0)

    Have a great Maine day.

Not much planned this year. The hub has an art show in NYC this spring, but I’m going to do some nesting while he’s away. With kid #2 on the way I’m embracing the quiet at home as much as possible!

We just got home from a day in town, and are all so glad to be here :) Nothing big planned this year except some time at the lake with the kids.

Don’t have the luxury of going anywhere. Have no desire to do lots of traveling and certainly no money to do so. Haven’t been on a vacation since 2004. Would rather stay home and do the necessary things to provide for hubby and I during such uncertain times. Would certainly miss all my animals and couldn’t imagine being gone for such a long time. Can’t be gone in winter as we have wood heat and in spring summer no one to tend the greenhouse and garden. More important to be home.

Thanks to a feckless Congress, I’m looking at a 20 percent reduction in pay this year so I think staying home is definitely in order. Luckily I like home best anyway. On the bright side, this will force my husband and me to really cut down on our spending – and we could use it! Always look on the bright side of life. :-)

(And I’m now going to have that Monty Python song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.)
