Welcome Home

February 27th, 2013

Last week, we arrived home at around 8 pm on Saturday night.   We had grand plans of taking Sunday off to relax and rest up from our 3 week long trip.   Nature had other plans for us.
Cleaning up the Snow 1
Cleaning up the Snow 2
We woke up Sunday to a blanket of snow.  It continued snowing throughout the day.  Mr Chiots used that new tractor to move the remaining snow from the blizzard that we missed while we were in Colombia.  The snow was heavy and piled rather high, we are thankful that we had the tractor or we wouldn’t have been able to get into our garage for quite a while. The driveway was also plowed twice, I did a ride along in the big red plow truck to take a few photos.
Cleaning up the Snow 3
I really should take advantage of all this snow to get out and get my Christmas card picture for this coming Christmas. I’d really like to feature this truck with big old fashioned Christmas lights. It sure would be nice to get that out of the way.

So much for a day of rest.  We didn’t really mind, we love snow and we enjoy hard work.  Since we did so much physical labor on Sunday, however we didn’t feel well-rested on Monday morning. We’ll just have to be mindful to take a few evenings off during the week.

Does nature every thwart your plans of rest and relaxation?

I hate to break it to you but playing with a tractor is a man’s idea of a day off. They say men are just older boys with more expensive toys. Glad we are having a real winter for your first one in Maine.

Susy, welcome to Maine winter. Maine always gets more snow than Nebraska. It’s seems that Kansas has been the storm’s targets this year. We have had several good snows but only one problem storm. Of course snow is the best kind of moisture for gardens. It has more nitrogen that plain rain. I kind of like being snowed in for a couple days. Jennifer is right about boys and their toys. I don’t have a big tractor toy but my mega snow blower (Stormie) comes out to play in the snow. She’s big and strong and will blow deep snow with best of snow blowers. I can’t just clean my driveway and sidewalks but neighbors all around as well. The Cabbage and Broccoli seeds have been started in the seed starting station so I’m really looking forward to the spring thaw.

Have a great Maine snow cleaning day.

Cabbage and broccoli already, you’re on the ball. We used to have a neighbor that would plow our driveway sometimes with his four wheeler, we were always thankful. What a wonderful thing to do for your neighbors.

Hey Dave, I hear you on the snowblower. I have a Honda with tracks and my male employee affectionately calls it Big Red and prefers that I don’t touch it.

Susy, who cares for your animals while you are away?

Our fabulous neighbor checks on them a few times a week while we’re gone. We repay them with meals out and babysitting when they need it. When we get more animals we’ll probably hire a house sitter. We know of a few teenage girls around here that live on farms and are great house sitters when it comes to having lots of animals.

…Ah, the stuff dreams are made of. You lucky, lucky peeps! :o)

…We’ve been getting our fair share of snow this season here in Missouri. You know the kind that falls 4-6 inches and then before that one has time to melt then another snowfall comes along and adds to it. Just love it!

…I have signed up for your emails so now I get your posts via email but I sure do miss visiting here. I feel like I’m in cognito. lol…

…I agree about the Christmas lites on the plow truck – great idea! Heck, I’d even buy a set if you had ’em made up. *hint*hint*wink*nudge*

…Enjoy your day you too! Don’t forget to play! :o)

    …Blessings.

p.s. – Btw, I’ve got a photo from a Christmas Eve snowfall we had in 2010 up on my blog right now. It’s with our old farm wagon and you’ll see our lil’ homestead in the background. I’m not pining for visits or anything, I don’t post enough to warrant any of that, just thought I’d share a snowy winter scene too Sus’. :o)

In weather like that, you may find yourself wishing for a cab for that tractor!

You’re so lucky! We’re having a warm winter here in Montana. Not much snow.
