Friday Unfavorite: Writer’s Block
Every now and then it hits, writer’s block, photography block, gardening block, cooking block. I have all kinds of new photos, many beautiful ones from my trip to South America, and yet, I find myself staring at my computer screen in the evening feeling like I have nothing to say.
The same can happen in the garden, we can feel unmotivated to weed, plant or even harvest vegetables. There are also days when we’re hungry and nothing sounds good. It happens to everyone at times, no one is immune. Typically, I stop, sit back, make a cup of tea and read a good book. It seems that helps inspire me once again. Generally, it means that I need to take time away from my work and relax, it has been a long work week so far. I guess I should try to take a few hours off this weekend to regroup.
How do you deal with lack of creativity and motivation in life?

Sitting back, having a cup of tea, reading a good book.
Diagnosis: I say your self is saying enough, overload!
I consider myself a busy, organized person who gets a lot done, but you are amazing in how you seem to have everything going at once, and manage to keep at everything on time.,
Have a day off… :-)
I knit socks, for our grown daughter, when my self says time to stop! Busy hands seem to set my mind free.

I spend time outside. Maybe visit a state park or take a hike in nature. We just need to settle ourselves back down to our core. Enjoy your rest and rejuvenation!

That often happens after travel, too. First, the euphoria of just being home again. Then there’s this kind of lull where I’m wondering what to do with myself, how to get back into my routine. (This may explain why most of my vacation time is just spent at home. I love seeing new places, but the actual act of travel is exhausting to me.)

Susy, I have those just not in the mood to do what I need to get done days as well. Of course, I have the privilege of not really having to work so I just veg out for a day or two and the inspiration comes back. I find that reading gardening magazines or homesteading books will bring back the desire to get moving on my projects again. Today will be painting fence panels day. Hopefully, I can get one primed.
Have a great relaxing day.

It might sound weird but I find taking a shower or bath helps. Water is grounding and it washes away more than just physical impurities. Standing next to a river, stream or pond can feel just as cleansing.

Push through. Push on.
Please watch Finding Forrester regarding writer’s block.

I don’t know. I just . . . keep going, I guess. Duty is a powerful motivator. For me, anyway. I have an extraordinary capacity for guilt, so if I don’t do something I feel I should do (even if no one else cares), I know I’ll feel guilty. So to avoid that, I do it anyway.

Sorry you are in a “funk”…but you have been so busy, it’s bound to happen. New house….selling the old one….travel…..chickens….ducks…..garden. Spring is coming, just give yourself some leeway. Don’t worry about it too much. Spend some time inside and outside of your new home and enjoy it and your animals…I myself would add prayer to the mix. Spring is close at hand and you will be rejuvenated with what shows up at your new home and environment ~ stuff you didn’t know was there. Enjoy it, and everything you look at will open a new door. (boy that sounds like I’m a grandmother…..I’m not :) Hang in there ~

A few months ago I started an “Inspiration Journal”. I don’t write in it daily but I do keep track of the things that inspire me. Sometimes something as simple as a fallen leaf or a colorful stone will inspire me to create a painting. Other times a piece of music will inspire me to work at a task I’ve been putting off or to start one that has been just out of reach. I think a cup of tea and a good book sound wonderful. I will have to add that to my journal. :-)

When I have writer’s block or creativity block or lack motivation to finish chores or tasks, I pause and do something sensual, something purely sensory. I give myself a manicure or paint my toenails. I take a long bath, I lie on a blanket in the backyard (I live in Florida) and watch the clouds and birds, I make bread. If my nerves are all jangly and I am on edge, I clean.
