Cultivate Simple 28: Our Menagerie

April 29th, 2013

Today on Cultivate Simple we’re talking about what’s going on around the run. It’s been busy, busy, busy around here. Since our last couple podcasts have been about other topics, we decided it was time for an update about what we’ve been doing around the farm. We’re talking about everything from timberframing to chicks.

iTunes, you have betrayed me again! Still hasn’t picked it up, but I NEED my Cultivate Simple, so I listened off the webpage.

Don’t count your patents before they’re hatched – I’ve seen numerous pictures of tramp chicken coops. :) It’s still a great idea, and I love the idea of the little fowl nursery outside with protection until they’re older.

I for one would not be gardening at all without this blog and your generous sharing of information. Last year was my first gardening experience, and while my poor plants died in their container prisons, I still learned some good lessons. This year we’re doing a form of the 5×5 garden (my husband took over the garden “plan” and did his own thing, but at least we’re growing vegetables!) and we’ve realized that we started very late for our climate. Always learning! Next year we’ll be armed with the knowledge and experience from THIS year, and we’ll start much earlier. Plus our soil will be even better with the amendments we’re adding THIS year. I’ve got compost going that will be added, too.

Thanks for taking the time each week to put out the podcast – it’s such a treat! (Now, if you could just figure out how to stream that ice cream…)

DebbieB, iTunes downloaded it for me this morning. You may want to try unsubscribing and re-subscribing.

Hmmm. That didn’t work. I just unsubscribed (which made me sad!) and then subscribed again, and all it gave me was Episode 27: Pondering Ponds.

        Perhaps iTunes hates me.

You were right… iTunes is not grabbing the episode. I think iTunes hates us all. Ironic since I thought hosting it elsewhere would fix this problem. We are all at the mercy of Apple.

Oh no! I hope you find a solution soon – the podcast is a valuable resource for all of us. What an aggravation for you!

I’m having the same trouble- tried unsubscribing and re-subscribing, and it still won’t even show that your newest episode exists! I’ll just listen from your blog in the meantime though… I was so excited to hear that this episode is just the two of you! As much as I enjoy and learn from the library recordings and interviews, my favorites are the fun peeks into your life at the Run!

I second Sam’s remark. While I really enjoy the topic-specific pod-casts, I do love the ones where you just catch us up on “what’s happening at the run”. What an exciting time right now! Can’t wait to see the 5 X 5 raised bed and eventually the timber framed greenhouse. Have a great week!

iTunes is crap… there I said it. :) I have no idea what the problem is with them. And they have no support to speak of. I am sure glad that we don’t depend on it for our paycheck.

Boo! I can’t get it either, nor is it even showing up. No worries, I will listen from the blog…..As with previous comments, I am also anticipating catching up with what is happening around the run!

OK… I may have solved it… FeedBurners fault.

Bravo, Mr. Chiots!!! It worked! Downloading now…

That fixed it – it downloaded! Odd – it identifies the podcast subscription as “Chiot’s Run” now, rather than “Cultivate Simple” (though the picture thumbnail is still Cultivate Simple).

What a pain this has been for you! Thanks for persevering.

Do you feed the ducks the potatoes raw? Do you cut them up at all or just throw the whole potato in? I thought I read somewhere not to feed raw potatoes to chickens. Did not know if that was true.
