Friday Favorite: Palmiers
Growing up in Colombia, we had wonderful bakeries on every corner. These were European style bakeries, filled with delicious breads and lots of wonderful treats. My favorite treat was always a palmier, or corazón as we called them down there.
Good palmiers are hard to come by here in the US. Most bakeries here are filled with bear claws and muffins instead of pastries. When Mr Chiots and I traveled to Seattle on our honeymoon we found a lovely French bakery and enjoyed them every day. Each time we’ve traveled back to Seattle we have enjoyed them. I made a small batch of them last week and we really enjoyed them.
What’s your favorite sweet treat?

Pies. Fruit pies, custard pies, hand held fruit pies. I enjoy making them and definitely eating them. There is one pie I have yet to make – still need to figure out the special recipe, it is my mother’s Nutella pie. It is so good.

These look amazing! My husband and I are headed to Seattle this month for the first time ever and are really looking forward to enjoying these kinds of pastries while we’re there. Can you recommend the specific bakery that you found there?

While you are in Seattle one bakery to try is Bakery Nouveau. One location in West Seattle, one on Capital Hill. I have not had a chance to go myself, but a good source tells me this bakery is on par with some in France. I hope you enjoy your visit to Seattle. The weather in the PNW , has been amazing this summer.

There is a bakery close by that has been in business for many years and they make without a doubt the best creme horns I have ever tasted in my life! They are the stuff of dreams:) Since you brought up pastries these came to mind but I adore sweets…so picking only one is not an option.

Actually, palmiers are right up there at the top. Ice cream would be #1 though.
