Happy Thanksgiving

All of our guests enjoyed the running commentary on each dish – the history of the garden and seeds, how everything was harvested, the process of canning and preserving it all. It was different from most Thanksgivings I’d been a part of. It was less about stuffing ourselves to excess, and more about how miraculous it was that there was a full table of food in the first place. I couldn’t help but think that was supposed to be the point of the holiday all along. I also couldn’t help but think that my role as an advertiser contributed to the misperception of food as a commodity whose value was distinguished mainly by calorie count and serving size. Boasting about the size of one’s holiday turkey is really only genuine when one had something to do with feeding it.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Chiot’s Run.  We hope you have a day filled with good food, lots of family fun and relaxation. I’m pretty excited about pumpkin pie, cranberry relish and stuffing. I can take or leave pretty much anything else on the table at Thanksgiving.

    I hope that you and Mr. Chiots have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    My favorite Thanksgiving (and Christmas) dish is a simple raw cranberry salad, just cranberries, oranges and a little sugar or maple syrup, ground up in my great grandmothers meat grinder. I could eat the whole bowl by myself.

    Susy, Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Your question about what is my favorite dish for Thanksgiving is a hard one. I like it all. If I had to choose it would be the turkey because Thanksgiving is the only time I get to savor the taste of it. The last few years my family has not cooked one of our own. We have visited a friend’s house. The only disadvantage to that is there are no left overs. I always boiled the bones and made turkey soup with home made noodles. I really miss that. I’m looking forward to a wonderful day.

    Happy Thanksgiving from the Great White North. Since my boyfriend’s grandfather was American, maybe we should start celebrating both dates! More Turkey please! My favorite dish are the roasted potatoes. I use Jamie Oliver`s method of parboiling them , then scuffing them up before roasting them in duck fat and sage till crispy.

    My favorite is homemade stuffing with homemade pork sausage. Of course homemade bread and cornbread for the base. Gave up the giblet stock so my mom could make gravy. Raw milk to moisten it. yum!!!!

    Hoping you both had a Happy Thanksgiving! Yesterday I made my new favourite dish, and it won’t be just for Thanksgiving. It was a garnet yam (?) side…with a cider, honey, bacon fat glaze, onions, crumbled bacon and blue cheese, and candied cayenne pecans.
