Fun with Uncle Brian
When we travel back to Ohio we make sure to schedule lots of time with our nieces & nephew. This trip back was no different. They are especially fond of Mr Chiots (aka uncle Brian) and of course they love his iPad. One day, while Mr Chiots was off hunting, they were over and asked where the iPad was. I told them Mr Chiots had it, they proceeded to ask when he was coming back.
They have loads of fun playing games with him, it’s certainly nice to have an adult that will take the time to play games with them. I bake cookies and do other crafty things with them, uncle Brian is the techie adult to play games and watch movies with.
Do you remember having adults you loved spending time with as a kid?

I didn’t come from a close family, but I loved being w/ my dad. He passed away much too early…

My kids adore my parents – they love cooking with my mom and really love fishing with my father. I think I know why – my father loves to cuss at the fish and crabs. What is better than fishing and cussing? Wish they would invite me.

My Grandmother was always my go to person. She always made me feel so safe in her home which was within sight of mine. Her passing, when I was 18, continues to leave a hole 50 years later.

My cousin, who was 10 years older than me, lived with us during his troubled teenage years. I adored him and thought he was so cool. His music became my favorite music. He let me hang out in his room whenever he was home, and borrow his records as long as I was very careful with them. He also paid me the princely sum of a dollar a week for doing his laundry.
My grandmother lived next door to us when I was growing up, and whenever things were difficult with my mom, I could find refuge at her house. She taught me to crochet and set me down the path of loving to have yarn around me all the time.

Susy, I was the first of my generation to be born. When I was born I was blessed with grand parents every where. Not only were all of my grand parents alive but nearly all of my great grand parents as well. I was almost 12 before they started departing from this world. Being so young I didn’t realize the opportunity I had to connect with my heritage in the past. One set of great grand parents claimed land in the Oklahoma land rush. Another sold moon shine to the surrounding farmers. Apparently moon shine made it to Nebraska during the prohibition days. They were gone by the time realized the personal insight to past I had. I do wish I could have talked more about how life was back then.
Of course when I was a kid there was no techie things. Well, unless you counted the electronic tube filled console radio that we listened to some times during the evening hours. It would be hard to pick out any one person of my family that I didn’t like spending time around. Grand parents, Uncles, Aunts, parents were are instrumental in forming the person that I am today. Some are still around but most are just awesome memories.
Have a great day building memories in your nieces and nephews. Aunts and Uncles are special people in the lives of young folks.

My grandmother was probably the adult I was closest to growing up. For awhile I remember being close to an aunt by marriage, who drifted out of my life after my uncle and her divorced.
I hope my niece and nephew will have fond memories of hanging out with their Aunt T one day. ;)
