Sunrise/Sunset

March 17th, 2014

Even though we’re self employed, we still have patterns to our lives. We have tried to develop a bit of a routine, not only for ourselves, but for our animals. Every morning, Lucy and I go on a walk. These days it’s been me with both dogs making a round of the back field.
Lucy Walking 1
In the evening, Tara gets a nice long walk on a trail that sets a big perimeter down in front of the house and the chicken coop. It comes up back behind the main garden in the back and ends up in the field that the dogs and I walk in the morning.
evening walk 2
With these two walks, we get a good perimeter walk every single day. It helps keep the predators away and it gives both the dogs and me some exercise. A walk in the morning and one in the evening is also a great way to start and end my day, bookends that help bring a little bit of order to our sometimes unordered life.

Do you have any routines you keep to bring a sense of order to your life?

Listening to the music the birds make every morning………..without that music my soul is lost for the day. And every monday we spent it at the beach, rolling in the sand, flipping in the water and drying in the sun.

Your walks sound lovely. I walk and do yoga every morning to start my day off on the right foot. I also write in an intention journal each morning. We thrive on routine here.

Susy, my life used to be filled with routine. Back when I had to work two jobs to almost survive financially, be care giver for a not so healthy wife, try to give my daughter some kind of normal life, and be chief cook, bottle washer, and all around maid, I built routines to be as efficient as I could. Time was a precious commodity for me back then. As time went on I became very proficient at routines. All I had to do was remember the first thing in the routine and it would begin to flow from that. It got so structured that I became a robot once the routine was started.

My wife passed on 12 years ago. It’s not a sad thing because she was born with a defective heart and never expected to live, then never make it to school, then never graduate high school. She lived 50 wonderful years and I was blessed to be able to share 23 of those with her. Then came retirement some years later. Now life has very few routines. That does not mean that life is not filled with things to do. It’s just that now every thing is different with a slower pace and rarely the same.

Even though we had a bit of snow (just a skiff that’s already gone) the soil temperature in the rejuvenated bed is has raised five degrees to 50 degrees at six inches depth. That’s good for any of the cool weather crops but the air temperature is a little harsh still and gets into the middle twenties at night. I still have hopes to get something in the ground by weeks end.

Have a great sunrise/sunset routine day.
