Friday Favorite: Planting Things
It’s always nice to finally start planting things I started as seed so long ago. Yesterday evening I planted three of the four flats of onion seedlings. It’s always excited to start putting seedlings in the ground after nurturing them for so long.
The empty seed flats will be filled with more seeds: leeks for fall planting, warm weather flowers, herbs, and other random seeds I haven’t had the space to start yet. The best part about planting seedling is that the garden is finally starting to look like a garden.
What are you planting this week?

We planted close to 50 tomato plants yesterday and I got several herbs in the ground as well. Back at it today to get the other vegetables done and then I will start seeds for the fall crops. It’s a very busy time for us all I think but after the long, super cold winter I’m thrilled to be outside in the garden!

Well, I broke down and planted a few flowers last night, really hope we don’t get a frost!
Had a friend who planted his whole garden and then we had an unexpected frost and he lost all his seeds and plants!
Don’t want to be in the same boat so I’m trying to be patient =)

Susy, I’m glad to hear that finally the seedlings are coming out from under the grow lamps into the real world. My plants that I’ve already planted are doing great. Tomatoes and Green peppers are surviving the real world just fine and the cabbages, onions, lettuce, radishes, and potatoes are coming to life. Next week the squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, and …. sweet corn will be planted. Oh, yeah, Spring is here to stay. Yippee!!
Have a great planting things day.

It feels so good to get started this year, doesn’t it? I seeded a bunch of pole beans this week, zucchini, and put three tomatoes in the hoop house. I think we’re clear of frost but am waiting on my other starter plants until it warms up a little.

We planted some half runners and onion sets this week, next week we’ll finish up with tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and candy roaster squash. We don’t have a lot of room so we must pick and choose carefully. I’m curious about the candy roaster as it’s the first time I’ve planted something from saved seed. I doubt we have to worry about frost now so we’re hopeful that it doesn’t rain too much at this point. Happy growing everyone!

I’ll actually be pulling up our garlic tomorrow and replacing it with tomato starts. Our scallions should be ready to harvest as well. Other than sweet potatoes, peanuts, eggplant and tomatoes, our garden is pretty quiet in the late spring/summer. Enjoy!
