Quote of the Day: James Thurber
“There are two kinds of light — the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures.”
-James Thurber
When you take photos you become keenly aware of light and the intensity of it during certain parts of the day. Photos will look completely different when taken when the sun is high in the sky than they will be during that golden hour before sunset. Generally I try to take photos when the light is the illuminating kind. The same goes for us, we can choose to emit a light that illuminates and enhances everything around us, or we can cast a harsh light that obscures beauty, color and detail.
Susy, good thought about light. Light can be harsh as well such as in a sun burn. Mornings are my favorite time of the day. As the sun rises and the day begins. Light overcomes the darkness and the creatures of the light begin their day. They sing their song from a tree, they begin their scramble through the trees as they flash their bushy tails at one another, they bark over the fence as the daily routine begins, and yes, they drive off to work to fuel the economy. The enjoyable thing of this time of my life is to watch it all happen without being caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all.
Fading light while working in the garden is the next best thing. The chirping of the crickets, the roosting of the wild turkeys, the last bark of the neighborhood’s dog, and the stray feral cat that wander’s down the road signify the ending of the day at Terra Nova Gardens. Fence building and garden bed rejuvenation continues.
Have a great illuminating light day.

I love your last sentence, Susy – so true. I will try to remember it, and illuminate rather than glare.

I just wanted to say that I am a very anxious person. I often come to the internet looking for peace, but I always find more anxiety. It doesn’t make sense that I keep coming back. But your page is different. I feel calm, happy, and simple when I read your words. Thanks for writing them.
