A Few Days in Ohio
Since my mom and I were traveling to Seattle, WA together this week, I flew into Ohio a few days early to visit with family. Mr Chiots went with me, he’s flying back to Maine today after spending yesterday visiting with his family. On Friday we went down to the family cabin and enjoyed a day of fun with our nieces & nephew.
We also stopped by the farm where the kids have their ponies. They have two ponies that someone is keeping for them until they buy their new place.
On Saturday we went to the Wayne County Fair, a favorite and a family tradition. We like to go on opening day to see all the flowers and vegetables at their finest. We also must buy Lerch’s Donuts and my dad likes to watch the horse pull.
This fair is everything a rural county fair should be and we had a great day! Of course I’m probably prejudiced, but this is the best county fair there is and I have been to a good number of county fairs.
Do you attend a local county fair in the summer?

I bypassed the Bangor State and Blue Hill Fairs but I’ll be at the Rose Gate of the Common Ground as it opens on the 19th. I just love this fair but it does mark the autumnal equinox which starts the down hill run of colder nights, increasingly shorter days and a frenzy to button up before winter.

Lorain county has a great fair. I grew up showing cattle there. Now we live in huron county so now my kids show there. Camping all week at the fair is a end of summer tradition in our family!

Susy, we do have many fairs here in Nebraska but this best one to attend is a couple hours away in Iowa. Their state fair has been ranked second in the country. The building with vegetables to be judged is so big that the far end is barely visible. Every year for 30 years a display of a full life sized cow made from butter is a huge attraction. Then another butter sculpture is made for what ever is current for the year. One year that I attended it was superman and another year is was an astronaut. It’s all inside a refrigerated case to keep it from melting. It’s quite something to see. There’s every farm tractor and every piece of machinery on display. Tractor pulls, dog shows, horse shows, monster trucks, and the list goes on and on are all at the fair. Any thing and every thing is deep fried and on a stick at the fair. I’m sure none of it is good for a healthy person but what the hay. It’s only one day.
Have a great time at the fair in Ohio day.
