A Delicious Day

September 9th, 2014

Yesterday was what you hear is typical for Seattle as far as the weather goes, though I have had nothing but great weather on all of my previous trips out here. We woke up to a gray, misty day that was cold, damp, and gloomy. No worries, as I had a tour of the Theo Chocolate factory waiting for such a day.

We tasted a wide variety of chocolates along with cocoa beans from a few different regions. We walked through the factory and got to see and learn exactly how good chocolate is made. It was a great tour, the perfect thing to do on a rainy day!

You can be we purchased a few goodies to eat and maybe a few to take home, if they make it through the week! I’m a big fan of dark chocolate and a few of those made it into my bag to enjoy throughout the week. I love that their chocolate doesn’t have soy lecithin it in as an emulsifier, only delicious cocoa butter!

Do you prefer light or dark chocolate?

Yesterday I picked two cocoa pods from the garden. The beans were already growing in the pod. I will dry them, then add them to my smoothies. Some will be roasted to make cocoa tea. The simple way to enjoy the cocoa bean. I do like to suck on the fresh beans when am luck to find the very sweet ones.

We are hoping to tour the Taza factory soon when we can get down to Boston. It’s our favorite chocolate.

That is my favorite brand of chocolate! A couple of years ago I was shopping and needed a pick me up and all the shop had was this brand of chocolate. I get it once in a while and it lasts me for days.

Susy, I only met one girl in my life that didn’t like chocolate. I like and eat my share of chocolate but it’s really not a craving or must have item in the house. Light or dark chocolate? I’m really not a fan of the dark chocolate but I can enjoy it in small doses. Sounds like you are really having a good time oh so far away from Maine. It still amazes me that just a little more than 100 years ago it took two years to make the trip that you made in one day. Even driving would make the journey only about three or four days. In another hundred years from now, if humans still exist, what will travel look like?

Have a great vacation day in Seattle.

Mr Chiots and I drove from Ohio to Seattle a few years ago and it took us four days of long driving, with a few National Parks thrown in for fun/sightseeing. It is a long trip. This is something Mr Chiots and I talk about when we take long driving vacations. We generally prefer to drive so we can see the landscape change and experience all the different parts of the country.

My husband has always preferred dark chocolate and until about 5 years ago I couldn’t understand why. It just tasted bitter and nasty to me. Now I love it and milk chocolate seems too cloying and sweet. I’m not even sure how I made the change. But I do know that when I want a little something sweet, a small bite of dark chocolate with a walnut half makes a really delicious treat!

When you were in the Fremont District did you have a chance to see the Troll Under the Bridge or Waiting for the Interurban? These are also landmarks for that area.

I didn’t see that, but we’re planning on heading back up there. I’ll look it up.

    Welcome!

After our 90-degree weekend, let me tell you, we were all ready for cooler weather. I think almost everyone is ready for a return to our “normal” cool maritime climate.

It was gorgeous weather in Seattle and Vashon Island when we were there in August 2014. I used to like just light chocolate but now I like dark chocolate.

I’m so glad you did this tour! I took my mom when she was out visiting a couple years ago and I enjoyed it so much I keep meaning to go back. I just need someone else to visit me as an excuse to go. ;)
