Quote of the Day: Snow

February 1st, 2015

“To appreciate the beauty of a snow flake, it is necessary to stand out in the cold.”
-Unkown

We’ve been getting nailed with snow recently, a couple feed on Tuesday and another foot yesterday. There are HUGE piles of snow everywhere and it’s fantastic. I’ve been heading out with my snowshoes in the afternoons for hikes. There really is nothing better than a sunny winter day!

One of the best things about a big snowstorm is when the sun comes out afterwards. The skies clear up and the sunset is always amazing that evening. I love the stark difference between the coolness of the blue snow and the warmness of the yellow sunset. We’re supposed to get another big storm this week – looks like we’ll be trying to figure out where to put even more of that fluffy white stuff.

Have you been getting any big snow this winter?

We have 10+ inches coming tomorrow. The floors are noticeably warmer with the snow banking the foundation.

Now that we have all this snow will we be seeing the annual photos of you sliding?

Susy, finally, we have snow in Nebraska. I too like the sparkle of sunshine off the new fallen snow. We got about 12 inches of snow with a bit more to come today. I suspect it’s the next storm that you will get. This one for us was a wet sloppy snow as the top layer of soil was thawed and the first few hours it just melted into slush before actually accumulating on the ground. So as a result, snow blowers are useless with wet sloppy snow as it just plugs them up. Soon, I’ll be outside with shovel in hand removing the snow from the driveway. I already hear folks grumbling about getting snow but I am one that actually enjoys the snow. Well, I suppose it might be from not having to get out and struggle to get to work any more and just work at my own pace while shoveling. Today will be a day of working on Grandkids Valentines and shoveling snow. It’s going to be a glorious day. :-)

It’s time to start the onions under the grow lights. Yeah (fist pump in the air), the garden season is about to begin.

Have a great Maine snow day.

…Oh you lucky lil’ snot you! ;o) We haven’t gotten a bit of snow here in Missouri since November! Absolutely nothing in December or January. And I mean nothing! It’s just sad. Just sad I tell ya.

…As always, lovely shots! Even the one of Mr. B plowing. :o)

    …Enjoy the snow!

    …Peace & blessings. :o)

Growing up in Minnesota I think you could consider snow accumulation to be a snow storm when you had to put chains on the tractor…I see you have reached that point.

We’ve only had enough snow to go sledding twice this year. We got about an inch yesterday but that’s it (eastern Washington). I am glad you are enjoying yours with your snowshoes and sunsets. I grew up on the west side of the state so snow sometimes still feels like a novelty for me.
