Drip, Drip, Drip
We’re finally getting some warm days and the snow is starting to recede. Though there is a foot of snow forecasted for this weekend. Yesterday was warm and sunny, all of my outdoor chores were done without a coat. The snow is melting off of the roof and the depth is going down on the garden.
It’s always a pleasant thing to hear the dripping and trickling water from the melting snow. It is the lovely sound of spring being just around the corner! Soon the birdsong will follow and that will be a beautiful sound indeed!
What are some sounds you are enjoying in your garden right now?

We are hearing the little frogs, spring peepers, now; the March wind; birds calling to claim nesting territories. I’ve heard cardinals, titmice, hawks, and mockingbirds. We had rain here today in central NC. After a colder than usual February, it was nice to hear a gentle shower of rain.

Susy, the only garden sound I’m hearing is the sound of boots pulled up from the mud in the garden. That slurping sound is an indication that the frost is coming out of the ground and that outside gardening will begin soon. The soil temperature is rising. Yesterday it was up to 40 degrees in the strawberry bed. At 55 degrees the potatoes can be planted so I’m guessing next week will be spud planting week. We here in Nebraska will have another 75 degree day. I’m not sure how long these temperatures will last as the our last frost date in May 15th. It looks like we are in for another very unusual Spring.
Have a great Maine thawing out day.
