Bbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…………
AH – you always know that spring is right around the corner here when the wasps and flies come out of the woodwork, literally! There’s a constant buzz in the house of flies and wasps in the windows.
It’s really rather annoying, the constant buzz, the insects flying around, the wasps hiding in your shoes and stinging you if you don’t notice them there. There’s no walking around in socks because the wasps are everywhere.
Every time the flies come out I have to laugh and think about The Bucolic Plague. They deal with an infestation of flies in their new home as well. The good thing is that our new little cat LOVES to chase and catch them all, so it keeps her occupied and out of my seedlings. I guess there is a silver lining in almost everything.
Are there any negative side effects of spring in your home/garden?

Mud, mud everywhere. Including on the children’s clothing every time they set foot outside the door. They go through two or three sets of clothes a day in the spring. Oh well. I’d rather do laundry than deal with putting on all their winter gear every time they want to go outside.

I get the wasps and flies in my old house too. Last fall I noticed at least a dozen wasps hanging out on the inside of the wood stove window. I scooped them out early one cold morning. Those things really hurt when they sting!

The first signs of spring are always so wonderful, they bring such joy.

I am glad to know I am not alone about the wasps. The buggers are everywhere! In the house. How in the world did they get from the outside in. The world may never know. :) Also, the fire ants are waking up and we have to be on the lookout for new fire ant beds. Anyone who has ever accidentally stood in one knows what I mean. Yikes!

The wasps must have a nest inside your walls somewhere.
Here in NC, the down side of the warmer weather is dealing with ticks. I have already gotten a tick off myself. Wow, only a week after the snow melted and I already have a tick on myself!
Vermin are such opportunists!

Not yet! We’ve had two sunny days of warmish temps and today I even hung the bedsheets out to dry!

Susy, no down side to Spring just yet. The temperatures are gorgeous. Middle 70s have warmed the garden beds for the last couple days with no lower than day time temperatures in the fifties for the next 10 days. The only down side to this Spring has been the lack of moisture. We didn’t get our normal snow fall during the Winter months and so far no rain this Spring. It looks like that might be the gardening challenge for this year. I can deal with that better than I can deal with too much rain or large hail or late frosts.
Have a great Bbbbbzzzzz less day.

FLIES. Oh my how I Detest them. We live on a ranch so the flies are extra horrible. House flies in the house, deer and horse flies in the garden. They bring out a violent side to me I never knew existed!
