Friday Favorite: Gifts

March 20th, 2015

Unexpected packages from friends are such a wonderful thing. This week I sent a package to a friend in Ohio and I received a package from a friend in Ohio (not the same friend).  Finding something unexpected from someone I love is one of the little things that makes my day, it definitley makes you feel loved and appreciated. I really need to make an effort to send a note or gift to someone at least once a month.

As you can see Dexter enjoys getting gifts from friends too!

Have you sent/received something unexpected recently?

One thing I love doing is writing REAL letters and sending them through that vintage thing called a Post Office. ;) Occasionally, I sit down and write a nice long letter to our oldest daughter. She appreciates it so much. I, too, love getting a letter. I have written hundreds to missionaries, a large number to a friend who was incarcerated (again, deeply appreciated) and servicemen in the past. It is a small thing to do.

I like to send notes and cards. I buy them when I see them cheap at yard sales or thrift stores. I need to get better at sending them out – that is my goal, to send one out a week just to let people know I’m thinking of them. I’m an introvert as well and not good with following up by phone, so I hope my cards and little packages will make up for that. I also like what a written note looks and feels like. It’s becoming rare.

Susy, every major holiday, I send out a slow snail mail card with a letter of my activities since the last major holiday card to all the grand kids, aunts and uncles, and some friends. All together there’s about 20 cards sent. I’m pressing into the Easter ones now. Packages are sent to some of the younger grand kids on these days. My packages come from things that I order online and then forget that I ordered them. It’s always a surprise when they come and a joy to open them up. I received the yearly letter from my sister that recounts all the activities of her year. It’s quite lengthy and takes a few hours (seriously hours) over many cups of coffee to get through but for it’s very enjoyable. Not many would take the time to read through a many page yearly trek of her life but I do enjoy reading it. It’s like listening to her tell a tale of her life for one year. For me it’s always a joy to receive one in the mail.

Have a great surprise package day.

I like your comment about making an effort to send out more notes and gifts. I send out small gifts and letters, but could do it more. A worthy goal. I know how much I love receiving notes in the mail, it’s a dying practice, the handwritten note/letter. It’s such a small thing and brings such great joy.
