Quote of the Day: Sparrow

April 12th, 2015

The earth is designed with four seasons – at least in the higher latitudes – one of birth, one of florescence, one of harvest, one of contemplation. Despite war, and acts of ruthlessness, nature preserves her subtle intent.

Poet Sparrow – in the Sun December 2001

It is the season of birth here in Maine, finally, it is here. The maple trees have pretty much stopped producing sap, the snowdrops are coming up, the apple buds are swelling. Spring has arrived!

What’s your favorite season?

Susy, yea, glad to hear that the dreaded Winter is finally over for you. Spring has definitely arrived here in Nebraska. We will be mowing grass for sure this next week. And so the routine of Spring and Summer begins. I’ve planted radishes, onion sets, and lettuce in the back yard garden and continue to clean up and prepare for the bigger planting in May at Terra Nova Gardens. Tomato plants are going into the bucket growing system within a couple days and will begin the process of hardening off but won’t be permanently outside for at least another month. The wild African violets are blooming in the yard and the dandelions are in the early stages of growth. Soon they will be blooming and my tool for digging them up will be well used. Ah, I just love Spring.

Have a great Spring day in Maine.

I am not sure what my favorite is, only that it is NOT winter! :)

I usually love Fall but am starting to really love spring. In Florida, winter was my favorite.
