Quote of the Day: Charles Dickens

May 31st, 2015

“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which everyone has many.”

~Charles Dickens

Yesterday, Mr Chiots and I celebrated our 17 year wedding anniversary – crazy, I know. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. We usually aren’t big on celebrating events, so we spent our day working outside and had a dinner harvested from the garden.

Mr Chiots did surprise me with a pig statue for the garden. I admired this particular statue at Fieldstone Gardens when we were there last Sunday. He left work early yesterday and picked it up for me.

After a little though we decided it should sit right by the front door. It’s a lovely piece and it’s quite perfect since we’re not getting real pigs this year. I do miss having them around, so this beauty makes me smile every time I see it.

Do you have any statues in the garden?

Susy, funny you should ask about statues. I am on the first call list for anyone who is giving away junk. Many of my garden tools, picnic table, iron bench, compost tumbler, etc. has been given to me from folks moving or cleaning out the garage. This last round from my cousin gave me a pair of pelicans and a turtle along with a great bench. I normally would not purchase any garden or yard statue art but when it’s given to me. How can I refuse. I haven’t decided on the final resting place just yet but I’m working on it. Will the chickens be able to keep up with the surplus or blemished harvest? I guess there’s always the compost heap.

Planting continues with more tomatoes, green beans, green peppers, sweet corn, more radishes, more lettuce, dill, and cabbages. I’m hoping to get the cucumbers, eggplant, and zucchini planted real soon. Pumpkins and squash will be on the list to plant as well. Rain continues so grass mowing still is in the frequent mode. The lawns look nice but it’s a challenge to keep up.

Have a great piggy statue day.

Well, first off…Happy Anniversary! And second off…I love your pig statue with the little piglets beneath it! It’s a lovely piece! Did I miss why you aren’t raising real ones this year? Enough pork in the freezer already?
My husband surprises me with things for the garden too, for almost every occasion and years ago gave me a cement statue of St. Francis, which is now covered in moss and lichen..he has so much more character now! :)

    Happy Anniversary!
Your new statue is wonderful! My grandmother loved pigs, when she passed away i inherited all of her pig garden art. My statues are much smaller than yours. I love the character they bring as well as many dear memories of time gardening with my grandmother.

Happy Anniversary! The pigs are cute, I am working on adding some fun to our garden areas this season now that they are in place and won’t be moved around.
