Must Get More Peonies

July 1st, 2015

I love peonies, simply love them. In my Ohio garden I have 15-20 different varieties of peonies and they produced quite a show in the early summer. Last year I purchased two new peonies for my garden here, but I’m definitely in need of a few more.

I brought a couple of these beauties with me and I still need to get a start of my grandma’s heirloom peony from my mom. I’m slowly adding peonies to my garden once again, I can’t wait to have them dotting the flowerbeds. ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ is definitely one of my favorites, I got one for this garden last year.

Do you have any peonies in your garden?

I absolutely love peonies…have to be one of my favorite garden plants.
I have them in my flower border, I have some in my kitchen garden for cutting. About to start a new kitchen/cutting garden so will be planting some in there too. :)

Susy, I have two peonies. One was the miracle peony in the front yard that was froze one spring and went dormant for the rest of that year and all the next and the other is by the back property fence. Our peonies bloom here in Nebraska around Memorial Day and the blooms are long gone now. Only the green foliage remains until next year. I do like peonies but haven’t really tried to add more to what I have. I always thought that peonies were hard to transplant and difficult to get started but I might have to re think that.

Have a great peony enjoyment day.

Yes, white peonies, which I like the best. They make our cold garden at 4300 ft above sea level in the Canadian Rockies seem a little bit tropical.

Those are beautiful! I uncovered a peony patch in my new gardens – they had been covered by an overhang of bittersweet vines which I cut back. I only got a few blossoms this year – I am hoping that next year I get some more!

I would have a hard time leaving all those plants behind! Fun to build up a new collection, though. I have a Krinkled White Peony, and hope to add other varieties.

We actually have a row of neon-pink peonies right by the road, and every year someone stops to tell me how much they love those peonies. And usually ask what kind they are, which I don’t know because I think my husband’s grandma planted them in the 60s.

Moral of the story: We shouldn’t hoard all the best garden plants all by the house. Planting in more-public areas can make other people happy, too.

I dug up a clump from my mom’s garden that we had planted together when I was a little girl and brought it to my new house after I got married. It’s never bloomed in the three years I’ve had it in the ground. It buds up, but the buds just never open. It was so beautiful at my childhood home. I wish it would bloom here!

I love peonies too.. and is that sage at the feet of the peonies in the first page? That is one gorgeous picture.. and it looks like the understory is holding your peonies up… thats my only real issue with them.. that they fall all over the place.
I have white & light pink ones in my yard.. gorgeous!

Yes, I have five peonie plants. One Sarah Bernhardt, all because of you. Peonies are one of my favorites, reminds me of my childhood.
