Parade of Blooms

July 12th, 2015

“Gardens are not just plots for growing vegetables and flowers, these are places for growing people”

– The Soul Gardener

It occurred to me that I haven’t given you a parade of things blooming in the garden recently. I feel like the end of June through the end of July is really one of the best times in this garden. In the future I have plans to add more for interest throughout, but at the moment, it’s a high summer garden. I went out last night and tried to get a photo of just about everything that was in bloom. Here’s what blooming in the gardens of Chiot’s Run.

There are wild flowers and cultivated flowers, edible plants and those simply meant to feed the soul, things I planted and many that were here when I arrived. Most of them need dug up and moved to a nursery bed while I try to rid the beds of invasive weeds. It’s a big process starting a new garden, but I can guarantee that I’ll grow more than the garden in the years that come.

What’s blooming in your garden this week?

Susy, wow, looks like everything is blooming in your neck of the woods. I have beans, potatoes, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, and (big sigh) many weeds in bloom. Yes, the weed battle rages on. The weather has finally tipped into summer with heat indexes over 100 every day for the next few days. Watering the gardens will be the issue this next week. I’ve gathered in a few more tomatoes. I see that you have as well. The Early Girl tomatoes are ever so good but I’m waiting for the much more juicy and tasty Celebrity that are just starting to turn. Thirteen of the deer nibbled strawberries look like they will survive but the pumpkins have become Bambi food. The big thrust needs to be to finish the fence in short order. I must be getting old. I just don’t like working in that extreme heat any more. :-) Oh, well, the gardener’s shadow will have to be in the garden at 5:45am during July and August.

Have a great blooming enjoyment day.

Beautiful bloomers in your garden. Is that milkweed, I see and if so, do you have any Monarchs around?
Also, what is that blue, blue flower in the second to last photo? I love blue in the garden!

Hi, not sure if my comment got through yesterday but was wondering about the blue flower (what is it) and if that is Milkweed, have you had any Monarchs around?
      Thanks!

    Thank-you Kathy,
Don’t you hate it when bloggers don’t reply to their commentors questions? :) Just kidding Susy, if you’re reading this! :) I’m guilty too!
