Crafting Winter Warmth

December 10th, 2015

I’ve been needing a new winter hat, so I finally settled on a pattern and whipped on up. Crochet is such a wonderful creative outlet. I love that you can quickly make something useful and beautiful!

This is the ‘Divine’ hat (you can find the free pattern here on Ravelry). I used Manos del Uruguay wool yarn in’Spirulina’ color to match a cowl I made last winter. It was a quick and easy project, only taking an hour or so. I may be making these for gifts next Christmas!

What are you crafting this winter?

What a beautiful hat. Manos yarn is one of my favorites.

Susy, my Winter projects include hammers, nails, saws, trash bags, and boards. I’ll still be working on garden structure as long as I can. I just about have a second raised bed finished in the corn fortress. Christmas season slows down my progress in the yard and garden. Sending out about 100 Christmas cards with a letter from the year’s activities takes time and effort. So onward I go.

    Have a great knitting day.

    Nice Manos. :)

I finished a beautiful wrap over the summer and am now working on a complicated cabled sweater. And, of course, I just figured out that I made a mistake a few rows back and have to undo an inch…(sigh)

What a beautiful hat! Your stitches look perfect! Do you knit as well?

Your hat is lovely, but to take it to the next level in warmth, I’d recommend you add a fleece liner. I’ve really noticed that this makes a difference in warmth, especially in the wind. A plain knitted/crocheted hat is pretty warm, but if you sew a fleece liner to the inside, it will be so much warmer. You might be able to repurpose a worn blanket or pair of pj’s, if you have them laying around too. Flannel would probably work just as well.

It’s beautiful Susy! I’ll have to learn to crochet – I can knit, and I can crochet a single border around what I’ve knit, but that’s the extent of my crocheting skills. It’s on my list of ‘things to do’.

Thanks for the reminder to consider nouishing the creative side! I would like to take up scrapbooking again- once I started sharing all my kids pictures on facebook somehow I forgot about the joy of putting together my own archive of my happy family memories. My kids love looking at my pictures of college and my twenties- I would like to add to my collection and get my pictures off my computer and printed out.
