Happy Birthday Mr Chiots

January 25th, 2016

Yesterday was a big day, a 40th birthday bash for Mr Chiots. We don’t usually celebrate birthday, not in a big way anyways. Usually there’s a favorite meal, or maybe a dinner out, but generally, nothing big. 40 is a big milestone, so I planned a big bash. We reserved the curling club and everyone met there. Curling is a favorite activity for Mr Chiots, so it was fitting that he was able to share it with his friends.

We celebrate with some of his favorite childhood foods: brown sugar & cinnamon pop tarts, doritos, pizza, oatmeal cookies, root beers, etc. We played a Brian’s favorite things bingo mixer game. What a great party of celebrate the life of a wonderful man.

What’s your idea of the perfect way to celebrate a milestone birthday?

Susie, I was never and still am not big on birthday celebrations. Most times mine come and go quietly without a lot of fuss. However, my oldest daughter informed me that next when I turn 70 in August of 2017 that their will be a big celebration. I’m not sure what it will look like and it may be in Las Vegas where all my family lives but I guess I’ll have to endure it. :-)

The birthdays that I remember the best were the ones when I was in the heart of hurricane damage area help to clean up fallen trees and no one really knew it was my birthday. It was the best years ever. Of course I’m blessed the most when I can help other people.

It sounds like you gave Brian the perfect birthday to turn 40. Have a great Maine day.

Happy birthday to Brian. Curling was a great idea, Susy. And I love the menu for the party, too :)

Hello from RI. I’ve been away from so many blogs for so long. Your blog is one of my faves so I’ve been reading back over the posts. I was out of commission for a bit….diagnosed with breast cancer back in May. Finished chemo in Oct, surgery in November and now I’m doing radiation. I’m feeling back to my old self once again. Glad to be able to scroll through your pages and see what has been happening. Wishing you both a joyous new year!

Looks like a great party. We had my Aunt’s wake in her curling club in Albany NY some years ago.

Happy Birthday! What a wonderful celebration you planned, Susie.

Last year I celebrated my 40th, and although I would have loved a party, we visited my folks and had a picnic on the lake, and then we have a small celebration at home, hiking in Mt. Rainier NP (to an abandoned mine on a 2 mile trail with a 400 foot gain) and burgers afterward at a quaint little old lumber town that has seen better days, but whose old historical buildings I find completely mesmerising.

I love your photo decorations. Cute menu plan too. :) When my fiancé turned 30, I blew up a picture of him from his childhood and we played “pin the tail on Michael” (he had one of those braids back in the day). It was such a fun time.
