Uncommon Cut Flowers
Yesterday evening I planted my cutting garden, well most of it. I still have a few things to seed. It’s filled with the usual suspects, you’ll be seeing them throughout the summer as they bloom. Meanwhile, I’m always on the lookout for uncommon cut flowers and other plants that I can use during the weeks with no blooms. This week I have lovely rhubarb flower bud stalks gracing my table.
They’re rather graphic, very large, very bold, and quite interesting. I absolutely love how they look and enjoy their beauty during this season. Since they need cut from the plant anyways, I may as well enjoy them on the table for a few weeks during this time when there’s not much else blooming outside.
Do you have any recommendations for uncommon flowers or foliage for the table?

Susie, ha, rhubarb buds? They actually do have a strange beauty about them. Only you could have thought to use rhubarb for a cut flower display. You blog always inspires me to open my mind to non traditional ways to use plants and flowers. My rhubarb was just planted last fall so I don’t think they will bud this year. The stalks are pretty small and I just left them go unharvested this year to strengthen the roots. Maybe next year.
I’m really not one for flower arrangements in the house. I enjoy them outside where they grow. The poor man’s patio is now once again alive with flowers for the year. In about a month or two the patio will be teeming with expoding color for all to enjoy while sitting on the benches or around the table. I’ve been wanting to put a small round table with a cast iron frame and chairs to match. My cousin gave me a set. Two chairs and a table last year. It’s just what I was looking for. It’s going to be a good year.
Have a great uncommon cut flower display.
