Ear Protection

May 20th, 2016

I’m serious about ear protection and I have very sensitive hearing. I’ve never listening to loud music and never liked loud noises of any kind, especially a lawn mower. I used to have a pair of custom fit musicians ear plugs that I wore at wedding receptions and when I used power tools and loud machinery. They finally wore out and I decided to buy a box of these foamy soft 3M ones. I use them a few times before tossing them and grabbing a new pair. While I love the previous custom earplugs I had, I didn’t want to spend the money for a new pair, I find these are super comfortable and I can wear them all day. I’m not usually one to use disposable products, but I do love these babies!!!

I highly recommend using ear plugs if you are using a mower or other loud equipment. If you don’t like things in your ears and haven’t liked other earplugs I think you’ll like these. I’m so glad a friend gave me a pair last year because I was able to see how comfortable they were compared to other brands. Now, I carry a pack of them in my purse and in the glove box of each car. I’ll never be caught in a loud situation without earplugs again!

Do you wear hearing protection?

I used to wear ear muffs when I ran the vacuum cleaner inside. This kind of sounds ridiculous, I realize, and probably looked it too, but our old vacuum cleaner was LOUD. Our new one is quieter, plus I need to be able to hear my children over the vaccum should they start screaming from legitimate need, so I don’t wear them anymore. Can’t stand the feeling of things in my ears, though, so I never wore the ear plugs.

Summer seems to be neverending motors and machines around here. Motorcycles on the road, boats on the lake, riding mowers and trimmers on both sides at our neighbors’ houses . . . I already miss the quiet of winter.

I use the ear muff kind when I’m working in my boarding kennel or using the high velocity blower in the grooming room. I sometimes use it when I use the leaf blower but now the mower.

I recently started looking into the different ear protectors and have found they have different ratings on them. So make sure you have the correct rating to correspond with the type of sounds and volume you are wanting to protect against.

I use ear protection all the time, and love the brand OHORPAX. It is made from a wax that custom fits to your ear after you place it in your ear. I grew-up wearing this product. I always load up on it when I travel abroad when I visit family, but you can buy it online in the States. I LOVE this product and if I can help it will never be without it. I wear it when loud noises are around and especially in airplanes.
