Friday Favorite: Front Foundation Garden
Every time I walk up to the front door I notice how much the front foundation garden has improved over the last year. Last fall, I dug everything out of the front flowerbed, smothered about a yard of grass in front of it and planted my boxwood hedge. The flowerbed was filled with ‘Annabelle’ hydrangeas, a ‘Gertrud Jekyll’ rose, along with a cornelian cherry tree on the corner. By the front door I have planters filled with lovelies, a small terra-cotta chicken and other plants in pots.
As I was looking for photos after dark last night, I realized I haven’t taken any photos from the point of view of walking up to our door. I’ll definetly do that tomorrow and share them with you next week. Right now this is one of my favorite things about the garden, all the hard work is finally started to show. I’m loving it every time I walk to the front door!
What are you loving in your garden right now?

Your hydrangeas look so pretty. I moved my hydrangea last fall, so it didn’t boom this year. I’m hoping for big fluffy flowers next year. I enjoy your blog. Happy Friday, Heather

I absolutely love hydrangeas. I just planted one I got as a gift in the front garden. I read that the “gift size” hydrangeas are really only meant for single blooms but this one was so tenacious and started coming back that I couldn’t help giving it a chance (since I plan on revamping the front space next year anyway). Can’t wait to see your front door! I’ve commented a few times but really discovered your blog nearly 7 years ago now. It has been a constant inspiration to me and I have enjoyed following your journey.

Susy, I’m loving in my garden finally after five years to have the critters and weeds under control. The sweet corn is rolling in and the weeds are smothered out. As with you, I’m enjoying just sitting and being in the garden as opposed to constantly battling the weeds and critters.
I’m with Sarah on being inspired by your posts over the years. I’m not sure how many years I’ve been following your blog. It started when you lived in Ohio so I’ve watched all the improvements you have done over the years you have been in Maine. I’m glad to see that it’s all starting to pay off for you.
Have a great Maine gardening day.

I’m loving my Liatris. I planted some this year and it’s just starting to bloom. It reminds me of Colorado, where it grew wild everywhere.
I’m also loving watching my bees pollinate the various different flowers. Having bees brings a whole new perspective to things.

Liatris was one of my favorites in my Ohio garden, I’m just getting it going here as well!
