Vintage Volvo

December 14th, 2016

While researching for our trip to Sweden, we came across Time Travel Sightseeing Göteborg. Of course we had to do it, seeing that we were in the country to pick up our very own Volvo. I first fell in love with Volvos when I was in third grade, our neighbors up the street had the classic 1970’s brown station wagon, I admired it every day on my way to school.

We got a very in depth tour of the city in a classic Volvo PV 444/544, they were manufactured between 1947 and 1965. It was fantastic and well worth it whether you like Volvos or not.

Susy, I grew up with Volvos. My parents bought a new 1958 Volvo 444 (shipped from Sweden) when they were married and that was our family’s car until 1971. My dad was in the Air Force and the Volvo went from Maryland to Seattle to Arizona, then was shipped from San Francisco to Hawaii where we left it after his Dad’s tour there ended in 1971. It was still in great shape but too old to be shipped stateside. They purchased a 1971 Volvo 164 (again, from Sweden) once we were stateside and drove it from Florida to Vermont, where he eventually retired from the military. I still remember the comforting feeling when I would see the lovely glow of the big, round headlights on the 164 when being picked up from an after-school event on dark winter evenings in Vermont. I could always tell it was our car, just by those headlights… : )
