Seeds, Seeds, Seeds
It’s that time of the year when I’m looking through all my seeds and making my orders for this summer. Some seeds I keep from year to year, if they have a loner shelf life, others need ordered fresh each season. Onions, leeks, lettuce, and spinach are among the ones that need ordered yearly for proper germination.
I used to wait until after I was finished with my taxes or order seeds, now I order them first thing in January. A few years I wasn’t able to get the varieties of onion seeds I wanted because they were sold out by the end of January. That means seed buying in now a first of the year activity for me. I’m still making up my list, figuring out what my favorites were from last year and what new things I want to grow in 2017. Exciting times indeed!
When do you typically order seeds?

Susy, I start thinking about ordering seeds when the catalogs start coming in. The first one always arrives just before Christmas. It’s a nice reminder to start thinking about what I want to plant in the garden. The garden plan for 2017 is done but like I’ve said in the past, “Until the seeds or plants are in the ground, every thing is subject to change.” As the development of Terra Nova Gardens continues less changing of the plan happens. This will be year number six of Terra Nova Gardens. I’m hoping to have 3/4 of the garden developed by the end of the year. Because of more raised beds each year, more options are available.
Have a great seed ordering day.

Could you share again where you ordered those fantastic tins you use to store your seeds? I’ve been unable to find a system I like, and mine are in a huge jumble!

I got them from IKEA (years ago so I’m not sure if they still have them).

I order mine during the black Friday sales in November… and then if I missed some, more during the christmas sales. I usually get 30% off and free shipping! Cuts the costs and I can order what seeds I want and they’re still in stock. :)
