Brrrrr……..

December 29th, 2017

This morning our bedroom was 47 when we woke up, and that’s in the new part of the house with good insulation and windows. There was frost on the inside of the windows.

The lows during the nights have been around -10, next week they’re supposed to get down to around -20. That’s a bit cold. Since we have an old, fairly drafty house, when it gets this cold we find ourselves covering the windows with blankets and the bottoms of the doors with towels.

This helps tremendously with the draftiness and typically helps keep the house 5-10 degrees warmer during these very cold nights.

How cold is it getting in your garden this week?

Susy, yeah, it’s been below zero here in Nebraska as well but not quite as cold as you. I think the coldest so far has been -7 degrees. The snow fall this year has come an inch at a time every other day this last week. Not too much to shovel but makes for a pretty Christmas covering. There’s a prediction of -10 with a wind chill of -35 on New Year’s Eve here but I’m hopiing they are on the high side of that prediction. It looks to be a long cold Winter.

I’m already starting to look at the seed catalogs for 2018. It should be an interesting year.

Stay warm my Maine cyber gardening friend. Have the best day that you can.

I was thinking of Nebraska Dave as I set out to report my New Hampshire garden was at -9 this 7:00 am.
The dogs were in and out fast!
Stay warm both of you, and Happy New Year!

Marina, it seems to be cold every where this year. It doesn’t look to be letting up any time soon. Stay warm and watch take good care of those doggie paws in the frigid weather.

I put bubble wrap on our windows. It works great and not expensive. Just cut it to size, spray the window with a mist of water and slap it on. When you touch it you can feel no cold on the glass.
