Sprucing up the Cottage

April 9th, 2018

This past weekend was spent painting & sprucing up our new bedroom, which used to be the office, until we couldn’t get our new bed up the stairs. It was already painted a few years ago, but it needed a fresh coat of paint on the walls and new trim. We walled in the old chimney to keep the drafts from the basement out (along with the spiders). We also moved our favorite little fan down from the old bedroom upstairs.

As home improvement goes, it gets worse before it gets better. There’s a pile of supplies in a corner of the kitchen, the living room is the painting area for trim. The dining room table is overflowing with drywall compound, trowels, painting supplies, and a host of other tools.

It’s nice to freshen things up, especially when it’s spaces you see frequently. We have plans on slowly moving around the house painting things to freshen and clean it up. We’ll put up new light fixtures that cast more light, the house is a bit dark. Slowly but surely, it will start to look cleaner and fresher.

What home improvement projects have you been working on?

Susy, funny you should ask. Since the weather outside is still dreary, cold, and unfit for gardening, I’m working on putting a new floor in the kitchen. It all was inspired by a refrigerator failure which prompted me lay down a whole new floor in the kitchen and dinning room.I’m probably about half way done. It’s all part of a grand plan to re invent the main floor now that my daughter and grandson have moved out. It looks like a construction zone like your pictures. I have faith that as time goes along it will get better.

The weather here today was a balmy 38 degrees. The average temperature according to Weather underground should have been 61. It seems that Winter just won’t let go. We even had a dusting of snow that didn’t accumulate but really? The soil temperature is not warming up at all and has staid at 38 degrees for the last couple weeks. There’s no potatoes or onions in the ground yet. I would like to see at least 50 degree soil before planting those. So my seedlings will have to stay in the basement bunker under the grow lights a little longer.

Have a great construction remodel day.
