Oh, The Weather Outside if Frightful…

April 17th, 2018

Yesterday was a super yucky day weather wise here in Maine. We had all manner of freezing precipitation, the sleet nailing me with 30mph winds while I was getting mail was actually a bit painful. At least the weather indoors is delightful as are the greens in the edible indoor garden.

I have many things that can be transplanted outside, should the weather actually warm up. Until then, we’re eating greens grown under grow lights and thinnings from flats of things that are on deck to be planted out as soon as I can work the soil.

What’s the weather like in your garden?

Susy, I feel your garden pain. I did get out to Terra Nova Gardens yesterday just to continue cleaning up what I didn’t get done last Fall. It’s really been a challenge to get there this year. Yesterday was only the 4th time I made to the garden. The soil temperature goes up and down between 35 and 45 depending on the night time temperatures and the amount of snow on the ground. I’m usually in the garden daily by this time of the year but this year is a very strange year. Everyone thinks that it will be a cool summer but I’ve seen this scenario before and the temperatures could turn hot over night and then we would be into the summer without much Spring weather. It’s hard to guess what nature will do and I gave up trying many years ago. I just play the cards I’m dealt when nature is in control.

Have a great salad from under the grow lights day.

My garden has lots of garlic popping up. Even in places I thought I harvested it all……The weeds are also doing well, not caring about the snow, sleet or freezing rain in the Syracuse NY area. I am getting very impatient waiting to get digging in my garden!!
