Quote of the Day: Monty Don
“But the gardener must try not to be blindly selective about what constitutes acceptable ‘wildlife’. Slugs, moles, rabbits, urban foxes and mosquitoes are all wildlife, too. Many creatures that seems harmful to your immediate garden might be an integral part of the food chain, enable to the more obviously beautiful birds or mammals to exist.”
Monty Don in Down to Earth
Susy, totally agree. I try to be as nature friendly as I can. My battle with the raccoons has tested my resolve to just eliminate them but the electric fence has solved the issue with the sweet corn. I come to the conclusion that they were there first and I invaded their territory. I am not a heartless gardener and when I harvest a portion of the sweet corn, I open the door for them to have theirs as well. I haven’t really had a bug or tick problem because of the wild turkeys and field mice are at a minimum because of the feral cats and hawks that patrol the neighborhood. Living in harmony with nature is one of the goals of my gardening.
Have a great harmony day with nature in the garden.
