Friday Favorite: Hummingbirds
I’ve always loved hummingbird (who doesn’t?). The garden is always filled with things that they will love and we hand a few hummingbird feeders by the windows so we can see them. Lately, one of our hummingbirds has taken to sitting on my rain chain. It’s particularly funny because the rain chain is shaped like little umbrellas (or Humbrellas as we say since our little niece started saying that years ago).
It’s particularly funny since the umbrella is perfectly hummingbird sized.
These little birds are endlessly entertaining. I love sitting on the back porch with my coffee in the morning watching them zoom around. I will always make sure I plant lots of things to keep these little guys fed.
Do you hang a hummingbird feeder in your garden?

No feeders, but we seem to attract one hummingbird per year who enjoys the zinnias, cosmos, butterfly bush, even magnolia and potato blooms. Your pictures are great; I hope to capture our hummingbird, if he will slow down!

That is too cute! No feeder. My neighbor down the street put two feeders up this year. He has had hummingbirds for years and they visit my yard occasionally.

That is so adorable! I love when mine sit on the clothesline. It seems like their activity is ramping up the last week, I see them on our beans and zinnias constantly, and on the feeders too.

That is a good name for that hummingbird’s own umbrella…Humbrella! We do put out a feeder and make our own sugar water…that commercial red stuff isn’t good for them! There are a couple that stay year round so we leave the feeder out all winter. I bring it in at night sometimes so it doesn’t freeze. I don’t know how those little things keep themselves warm here in the winter. Although we don’t have the severe cold winters it still can get pretty chilly sometimes…Alot! :)
