Winter Sunsets

January 14th, 2019

During the winter, the sunsets are typically stunning. I’m not sure why they seem so much prettier, maybe it has something to do with the fact that we can see more of the sky in the west when the leaves are off the trees? Maybe it has something to do with the sun setting so early? Perhaps it’s just something about the atmosphere during the winter months. The other evening, I was working in my office and noticed this view out the window.

Funny enough, while I was taking photos, Mr Chiots texted me and said “Did you see the sunset? It’s amazing this evening!”

Do you find yourself noticing different things in different seasons?

Susy, the Winter sky is filled with things to see that just can’t be found any other time of the year. Here in Nebraska the sky is very clear and the stars can be super bright. The moon seems to be larger than during the other seasons. Morning skies are my thing. I don’t see evening skies much especially in the Winter. I actually saw a full rainbow in the sky during a snow storm a couple weeks ago. I didn’t think that could happen but it did. It was only there for about 5 minutes and then it disappeared. Nature always has a way of surprising me.

Have a great Maine Winter sky day.

I love winter light. The sun shining in, hitting the wall near my desk, lighting up the fish tank (how they love this!), warming the house – lovely. Sunsets are spectacular. And after the sun sets, the crisp, clear winter sky and stars are mesmerizing. I wish it weren’t as cold as it is right now but that’s okay, the fire and coffee are hot.

Your photos are beautiful. The sky looks like it is on fire.

I don’t know if you know this, but, on January 20th there will be a full lunar eclipse. It is a Wolf full moon and also a supermoon. It’s being called the ‘Super Blood Wolf Moon.”

We were just reading about that, hopefully the skies will be clear so we can see (or not see I guess).
