Friday Favorite: The Meadow
We have a large grassy area that might be considered a lawn. Since we just have a small push mower, we left most of it to grow up into a meadow. It’s been beautiful, filled with wildflowers of all colors, shapes and sizes and a wide variety of grasses as well.
We’re not the only ones enjoying this, we have a doe that’s been grazing regularly down below the house. She’s been coming out and grazing every week. We noticed her first a few weeks ago while she was still very pregnant. She’s since had her fawn, which we’ve heard bleating down in the woods.
What’s your favorite wildflower?

Growing up in Colombia, we had wonderful bakeries on every corner. These were European style bakeries, filled with delicious breads and lots of wonderful treats. My favorite treat was always a palmier, or corazón as we called them down there.
Good palmiers are hard to come by here in the US. Most bakeries here are filled with bear claws and muffins instead of pastries. When Mr Chiots and I traveled to Seattle on our honeymoon we found a lovely French bakery and enjoyed them every day. Each time we’ve traveled back to Seattle we have enjoyed them. I made a small batch of them last week and we really enjoyed them.
What’s your favorite sweet treat?

When I was a little, the Easy Bake Oven was one of my favorite toys. I’m sure that doesn’t come as a surprise since you know I love to cook.
Yesterday, we got out my mom’s Easy Bake and baked up a storm with my two older nieces. It was my sister’s (their mom) birthday, so they wanted to make her a cake. Happy Birthday WENDY!
My parents had to choke down many an easy bake cake, piled high with frosting. It’s nice that the tradition remains alive. Even my mom’s neighbor received her own individual cake.
Did you have an Easy Bake Oven when you were a kid?

One of the things I really enjoy about visiting botanical gardens is that many of the plants have labels. I find myself taking photos of plants and their labels in order to hopefully add a few of my favorite varieties to my own garden someday. Here are a few that caught my eye this past Tuesday when we visited Kingwood Center.
Even though I always do this with hopes of adding a few of these plants to my garden, it never really seems to materialize. At least I know which plants are in my photos, which comes in handy sometimes for plant identification and for selling photos.
Have you ever spotted any must have plants while visiting a botanical garden?

I got these new shoes a month or two ago and I LOVE them. They were chosen because they were slip-ons, perfect for gardening. There is a no shoe rule in this house, so slip-on shoes are a must when you’re coming and going many times throughout the day.
They’s Keen Sneaker of course, the only brand of shoes that I buy. They fit my feet perfectly and I know they’ll always fit like a glove.
These shoes quickly became my favorite shoes and I wear them everywhere.
I’m actually thinking about buying another pair because I love them so much.
Do you wear slip-on shoes when you garden to leave the soil in the garden?
