Cultivate Simple 26: Plowing with Pigs with Hank Will
A note from Mr. Chiots – We had some problems with our podcast host wcich resulted in changing hosts and all should be good from now on. We had to re-publish this episode to get it to show up in iTunes.
Today on Cultivate Simple we’re talking with Hank Will, farmer and editor of Grit Magazine. We discuss his new book that he wrote with his wife Karen titled Plowing with Pigs, and Other Creative, Low-Budget Homesteading Solutions.
We are giving away an autographed copy of the book. To find out how to win… you will have to listen to the podcast. You can also purchase a copy of the book directly from the Grit website.

I love Mondays now! Your podcasts are never boaring. I usually brew a cup of tea (we’re sick and snuffling here) and hog the computer for a couple hours. I love that I can work while I listen; no truffles and novel reading for this busy mama! I enjoy hearing Susy and Brian hamming it up, but the best part is the inspiration – I’m always ready to sow some seed or root some cuttings! The one thing I wish for is a transcript, as sometimes the baby starts squealing, and it would be nice to slop quickly through and read what I missed. But I suppose you’ll have time for transcripts when pigs fly!

Despite my house looking like a sty, I sat at my computer and listened to your latest podcast with Hank Will. I thoroughly enjoyed it. But now it is over and I have to think about what I am going to make for dinner and I think I’m in the mood for something with bacon.

I enjoyed this weeks podcast as I devoured my lunch with porcine tenasity. The books of the week have encouraged me to go rooting around our local library for some new reading material on introducing livestock on to our homestead.

Great interview with Hank. I’ve never watched any of the Tough Grit episodes but I’m looking forward to trying them.
I was disappointed that the episode didn’t automatically download from iTunes this morning – I like to go for a walk and take you with me on my iPhone. It still hasn’t downloaded by this afternoon, so I just listened via the Cultivate Simple website.

I’ve tried several times today to get the podcast on iTunes and it’s still not showing up. Thanks!

9:30pm here in Ca and still can’t get it from iTunes. Drat!

I am not sure what is going on with iTunes. I think they may be punishing us because of the service we use to host the audio file. May have to start paying to get it hosted.

Wow! This was my first introduction to your podcast and I thoroughly enjoyed it. What great information and encouragement! We’re just at the beginning of our homesteading journey, so I’m sure I’m going to be rooting around your site to find more treasures. And I’ll be hoofing it back here each week for the next podcast. tHanks!

I was happier than a pig in mud listening to your podcast today! My husband and I love Mother Earth News, so we will be checking out Grit more. This sounds like a great book to learn more about homesteading and self reliance. Thank you!

I’ve been pigging out on CS podcasts lately–listening to you both has been a real “pig” me up. I just started doing dishes by hand, which my family thinks is pure hogwash and have been busting my chops, but i have to tell you, when the last dish is washed and the podcast isn’t over, i’m bacon for something else to clean. :)

I’m an Android user and this episode is still not showing up in my podcast app, BeyondPod. I’ve never had issues with any other episodes or other podcasts, so I assume it has to do with the hosting issues you had earlier this week? Just wanted to let you know in case there are any other non-apple/itunes users out there with the same problem. I always look forward to your podcast and hope to be able to listen in soon!

I can’t find the 26th podcast in my iTunes either… :(

Oh it will be hard to one up the “whit”ty comment! The itunes puzzle didn’t keep me hog-tied, I found a way to listen anyway! I loyally hauled the laptop around the house as I listened to Cultivate Simple today. I was quite thankful for the podcast. It kept me well entertained as I cleaned this pig-sty.
Hank sounds pretty awesome. I can’t wait to read his book. Thanks for introducing us to it and to him!

I’m afraid this will be boar-ing after all the clever comments, but I want you to know how much I enjoy your podcast! The information is great and inspiring, and I get so tickled at y’all hamming it up! Hoping to get some pigs of my own someday!
