Quite a Swing

February 17th, 2016

On Monday morning it was -19 outside – BRRRRRR.

Yesterday afternoon it was 50, that’s quite a swing in temperatures. We had snow switching to rain, boy did that make a mess of the roads and our driveway. I’m always amazed at nature when things like this happen.

What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Susy, wow, that is quite a swing. Our weather here is starting to warm up and may just be in the 50s as well today. I saw the first tulip just peeking up through the mulch a couple days ago. It always amazing me how the ground can still be frozen and the early Spring flowers know just when to start growing. I’ve always read that plants know what to do by the day length but then how can a buried tulip bulb see the day length. It’s all quite a mystery but I’m glad it knows what to do and when. Things are a little messy at Terra Nova Gardens as well. The ground is still frozen and there are patches of snow around the garden. The ground is beginning to thaw so where there isn’t any snow there is surface mud that’s slippery. It’s time to get into full seed starting mode.

Have a great 50 degree Spring thaw day.

Susy, our weather has been mild, overall, with only one weekend of -40. There have been radical swings in temperature from -20C one day to above 0 the next. We’ve had freezing rain and now some more snow. After a very mild autumn and not much snow before Christmas it doesn’t seem like the winter has been as long or as inconvenient. Still looking forward to spring, though!

So much rain in the PNW ! In fact, part of the state has broken precipitation records going back to when they began keeping records. Yes, it does rain a lot here, but this has been something else. Can’t complain though, you have been having such bitter cold weather. I wouldn’t mind a little snow, but at this stage in the game, bring on the sunshine please.
