A Day in Stockholm

November 28th, 2016

I’m finally getting back around to going through more of the photos from our trip to Sweden back in September. We drove to Stockholm after spending the night in the nature center at Lacko Slott (see those photos here and the gardens here and here). We arrived late in the evening, checked into the Motel L, ate a delicious dinner at Pipes, a pub right next door to the hotel. The next morning we were up early, called an Uber, and off to the old city we went.

It’s amazing to see this level of history, we have old stuff in Boston, but nothing compared to this! We did a walking tour that we found on-line, it came complete with historic descriptions of all the places we stopped.

The colors, the textures, the cafes, the food, the shops, it was all a very fascinating morning. After visiting the old city, we were off to one of my favorite things from our trip to Sweden, stay tuned for that and more from our trip.

Susy, what? No gardens to visit? It’s fascinating to see the centuries old architecture. We in the States are lucky to find a building that’s 200 years old. It’s really hard to imagine living in a country that has hundreds of years of history.

Our country is such a throw away culture that if a perfectly good building doesn’t fit the particular business look of the company, it’s torn down and another built. I think of a lot on a busy street near my house. Over the course of 30 years, three different fast food places have torn down the previous perfectly good building and built their model in its place.

I’m always amazed when I think about how in the world did they actually build those massive buildings without the use of machinery of today. Those buildings were built with mostly human and animal labor.

Another day here in the 50s after a rainy day yesterday. I’ll be working more on the side yard patio while the weather stays relatively warm.

Have a great Maine Fall day.

Thanks for the opportunity to travel abroad “with you”. It made me want to travel more.
